🔎 🔏 Trustworthiness is a key prerequisite for the development of AI applications - but how can we verify it? Last call for the remaining free places at the »ZERTIFIZIERTE KI« symposium. The symposium of the KI.NRW flagship project »ZERTIFIZIERTE KI« on 30 September 30 and October 1 will focus on the importance of tools, ecosystems and business models for AI testing against the backdrop of European AI regulation. #Trustworthiness is a key prerequisite for the development of AI applications - but how can we implement and demonstrate it? Therefore, this symposium is aimed at companies facing these challenges, as well as professionals from the TIC sector, tech start-ups and researchers in the field of trustworthy #AI who are developing solutions to the challenges mentioned. Another aim of the symposium is to clarify the legal framework for AI, especially with regard to the recently adopted #AIAct of the European Union and its implementation. Speakers will include the two experts Bertrand Braunschweig, scientific coordinator of Confiance.ai, and Roberto V. Zicari, head of the Z-Inspection® Initiative and Trustworthy AI Labs initiative, who have been working on #trustworthyAI and #ethicalAI in practice for many years. In addition to these exciting keynotes, participants can expect a varied program of specialist presentations from a scientific and user perspective, panel discussions and contributions from legal experts on AI regulation. ℹ️ Further information on free participation and an overview of the agenda can be found here: https://lnkd.in/evCh-Tm5 ⚠️ The registration deadline is September 22.

Another AI initiative from the UK Government: the Department for Science, Technology and Innovation has announced more than £100 million in funding to support research and regulation for the technology. Notable that it has announced the two workstreams together. Last week the House of Lords Digital and Communications Committee said the Government had spoken too much about the risks and not enough about the great potential in AI, but this new announcement seems designed to convey that it has both sides in mind and is aiming to create the right balance for the safe and responsible use of the technology. https://lnkd.in/ekN-kczM #ai #regulation #ukgovernment

Discover how the new risk-based approach is set to transform AI regulation across all EU Member States. This comprehensive framework addresses high-risk AI systems, prohibited AI practices, and general-purpose AI models, ensuring uniform standards and enhanced safety.
Cracking the Code – Exploring AI Act for High-Risk AI Systems As days go by, artificial intelligence (“AI”) continues to delve into our daily life. It is one of the reasons determining the representatives of the European Union (“EU”) to become pro-active in regulating its use, in particular in relation to AI systems. In this context, on July 12th, 2024, the long-awaited Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 13 June 2024 laying down harmonised rules on artificial intelligence and amending Regulations (EC) No 300/2008, (EU) No 167/2013, (EU) No 168/2013, (EU) 2018/858, (EU) 2018/1139 and (EU) 2019/2144 and Directives 2014/90/EU, (EU) 2016/797 and (EU) 2020/1828 (Artificial Intelligence Act)[1] (the “AI Act” or the “Regulation“) was published in the Official Journal of EU. The AI Act introduces a new risk-based approach that will uniformly apply across all Member States and establishes a comprehensive framework in relation to AI systems, including high-risk AI systems, prohibited AI practices and general-purpose AI models. Regarding the next steps, the AI Act will enter into force on August 1st, 2024, and it will be fully applicable from August 2nd, 2026 (with certain exceptions). 💻 Upcoming webinar: Operationalising the UK’s AI regulation principles: expert perspectives on the role of standards This event will explore ongoing Turing research mapping and assessing the role of individual standards for operationalising the UK's AI white paper principles. The research aims to support industry and regulatory bodies to identify where standards can play a role in achieving the objectives defined by the UK’s AI regulation principles (e.g., through informing AI governance processes and regulatory guidance). ➡ First, researchers from The Alan Turing Institute will present their assessment methodology and interim findings, highlighting where, and which standards can support the operationalisation of the white paper principles. ➡ Chris Thomas will then chair a discussion with Nuala Polo (Department for Science, Innovation and Technology), Dr Matilda Rhode (BSI), Annie Leith (Competition and Markets Authority) and Huw Roberts (Oxford Internet Institute, University of Oxford), exploring findings from the research and sharing broader perspectives on the role of standards in the UK’s AI regulatory approach, identifying opportunities, and discussing gaps and challenges. This event is part of The Alan Turing Institute's #AIUK Fringe 2024, a series of events exploring key topics around data science and AI. Majority of Brits don't trust the government to regulate AI. 📍 Two-thirds of the UK believe the government do not understand emerging technologies – such as AI – enough to adequately regulate them, new research claims. The 2024 Edelman Trust Barometer – an annual mass survey of public opinion on various institutions – revealed that in the UK, there is considerable anxiety over the government and businesses’ ability to manage the rise of new innovative technologies. #government #ai #research #business #technology #regulations #UKtech
