Last year, I quit my job with no clear plan on how I was going to replace my income. I was paid well at Google and enjoyed my team and the work. But with the great recession in full swing and the pandemic drawing to a close, I sensed a unique opportunity to help the next generation of technologists succeed by becoming a full-time speaker and coach. I had to get uncomfortable. I left my job to become a full-time entrepreneur with: ❌ No concrete deals or prospects ❌ No products or sales process ❌ No idea how to book paid speaking gigs Turns out, the ideas I drew out when I started were harder to implement than I imagined. It has taken effort, learning, and most importantly, time. I’ve had to tap into savings a couple of times. But with the Lord, my wife, and the wonderful support of Linda Anahí Cruz of Vastala, I'm staying the course. This work matters to me. It's history in the making. I struggled with what, if anything to share with you all here as this is incredibly personal. But at this point, we will take all the help we can get. As most of you are aware, we have been at this battle fighting Layla's brain cancer for 2 1/2 years now. I have luckily been able to keep working as my job has been incredibly supportive and flexible. During this time my husband has been fully focused on finding the best medical care for Layla and with the type of work he used to do, balancing both has not been an option. Unfortunately with the cost of living, my salary is not enough to keep us in our current living situation much longer. I am so thankful that my husband has dedicated every waking moment and many sleepless nights to finding innovative treatment for Layla. If we had followed the traditional path, she would have been gone a long time ago. This thought takes my breath away every time it crosses my mind, no parent should have to think about their child dying. It is the worst torture imaginable. If you are able to donate anything (even the smallest amount helps) towards keeping Layla in our current home and school district we would greatly appreciate it. Our hope is that my husband and the medical teams are on the path to finding a way out of this hell for us. Thank you!
