The name of the Paris 2024 mascot is Olympic Phryge, based on the traditional small Phrygian hats that the mascots are shaped after. The name and design were chosen as symbols of freedom and to represent allegorical figures of the French republic. As Paris 2024’s vision is to demonstrate that sport can change lives, the mascots will be playing a major role by leading a revolution through sport. The Olympic Phryge is decked out in blue, white and red - the colours of France’s famed tricolor flag - with the golden Paris 2024 logo emblazoned across its chest. Phrygian caps can be seen sat atop the head of the iconic figure Marianne in every town hall and even feature on everyday objects in France such as coins and stamps. They are also an international symbol of liberty worn by freed slaves in Roman times and appearing on different emblems in North and South America. Also known as the liberty cap, the Phrygian cap has become one of the symbols of the French Republic. The medals of the next Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024 have been unveiled! Whether they are gold, silver or bronze, they will all contain a very special piece of metal that was once part of the Eiffel Tower. Cut into a hexagon, the geometric shape evokes France to the point of becoming its nickname. Also on the same side, thin lines are projected at irregular intervals all around the iron hexagon. Struck rather than engraved, these rays bring relief and shine to a medal that is far from smooth. Yesterday, the 200-meter men's final at the Paris 2024 Olympics took place, and there has been a lot of talk about one of the athletes, Noah Lyles. Lyles is a very successful sprinter, having won three world championships and a bronze medal at the 2020 and 2024 Olympic Games. He also won a gold medal in the 2014 Youth Olympic Games. In 2023, he made history by winning three sprint events at the World Championships, a feat not achieved since Usain Bolt did it in 2015. (Source: Wikipedia) Noah Lyles comes across as a confident and driven individual. He truly believes in himself and his abilities, which motivates him to strive for excellence every day. However, some people see him as too proud and full of himself. This raises the question: Where does self-confidence end and arrogance begin? In a documentary called "Sprint" on Netflix, you can see behind-the-scenes moments with Lyles and other track runners. From his interactions, you can tell that Lyles exudes confidence and determination, influences that stem from his background and the support of people like his mom, who motivates him despite his asthma. Before the final race, Lyles was poised and prepared, fully confident in his ability to win. However, Letsile Tebogo emerged as the victor, leaving Lyles with a third-place finish. Now, the question remains: How do we differentiate between self-confidence, pride, arrogance, and boastfulness? Note: Many people are critical of Lyles, labelling him as prideful and boastful. Just now that the Swiss company had managed to beat Nike on the #running segment, the (hitherto successful) factor of product hyper-specialization is now in danger of fading into lifestyle. This will reflect on shifting the starring role, for what concerns the brand narrative, from runners - by its nature an unaesthetic discipline - to frail pilates beauties.  An evidently data-driven gamble that risks thwarting years of exceptional efforts and paling in the noise of competition. A mistake Hoka, among others, is careful not to make, insisting on "blood and mud" testimonials to keep the flag firmly planted on the ultra niche.  The latest commercial, in which the Hollywood star dribbles "air tennis" (as in: without a ball) with Roger Federer, is a demonstration of the communicative vacuum that On's choice leaves behind: Zendaya is not believable when she plays tennis (unless Guadagnino is sitting behind the camera) and you certainly can't put her on a run. All that's left is the gag. Expensive, well shot, and yet desperate, bloodless, empty.  The exceptional quality of the product, its innovativeness and vision, ceded to the sidewalks or, at best, to hospital ward comfort in the company of Dr. Scholl's.  It will fly on the stock market, but at the cost of brand consistency. Paris 2024: The incredible story behind the Olympic and Paralympic medals The athletes who will compete at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 now have an extra motivation to reach the podium: in addition to bringing home a gold, silver or bronze medal, they will also take a small piece of Paris with them, materialised by a section of the Eiffel Tower integrated in each one. It all began with a rather special brief. Bring creativity and poignancy to a classic yet essential object symbolising the Olympic and Paralympic Games. But how can the medal be even more special? Is it possible to go beyond the traditional with something as classic and long-established as the medals? The answer: yes. By including a piece of France inside – literally. Chaumet, the French jewellery house, used its world-recognised expertise to take the concept to another level in order to magnify the idea, make it shine and give life to something that could have been ridiculous, but turned out to be quite special. This time, the designers didn’t have to deal with a timeless diamond or a ruby, but a material that had aged. They decided to think of it and work with it: the Eiffel Tower, at the centre of an exceptional jewel. Each medal made for Paris 2024, revealed on Thursday 8 February, has an original piece of the Eiffel Tower in it, and it comes with a supporting certificate of authenticity.
