Throughout July, LaBella teamed up with the Education Success Foundation to host a summer camp for students from the Rochester City School District! These bright minds joined us at our State Street office for immersive sessions on architecture, engineering, and design. The camp was filled with learning and exploration, from educational presentations to hands-on activities and even tours of Rochester Institute of Technology and other architectural landmarks. We're thrilled to have introduced these students to the exciting world of A/E/C. Here's to promoting curiosity and encouraging future leaders in our community! #poweredbypartnership #rochesterny #educationsuccessfoundation #rochestercsd

Want to talk? I'm interested in chatting about robotics or assistive systems for the elderly or impaired. Current experiences with design systems, engineering leadership, accessibility, mentoring, DEI.
The 7 principles of #UniversalDesign: 1) Equitable use: identical operation for everyone not just "separate but equal", and make the design appealing 2) Flexibility in use: empower choice in usage, improve accuracy of usage 3) Simple and intuitive use: consistency and simplicity including language skills and literacy, also effective prompting and feedback 4) Perceptible information: redundant info presentation and feedback, maximize "legibility", compatibility with reading methods 5) Tolerance for error: minimize hazards and errors, provide warnings and fail-safes 6) Low physical effort: minimize repetitive or sustained physical effort, and let people remain in a neutral body position 7) Size and space for approach and use: accommodate hand, grip, and easy line of sight for all people, including room for assistive devices and personal assistance These design principles guided the building of the Ed Roberts campus at UC Berkeley. In this video, we get a tour of the Center for Independent Living: https://lnkd.in/g82bWqs3 #Accessibility #Principles #Architecture #IndustrialDesign #ProductDesign #POUR

Northeastern University in Boston is an institution in a hurry. Decades ago, it was dismissed as a commuter school. However, over the past couple of decades its reputation has risen, and it is now ranked as a top-tier research school by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. According to U.S. News & World Report, it admits a paltry 7 percent of the people who apply. Under the aggressive leadership of President Joseph E. Aoun, a Lebanese-born scholar in linguistics, the school is using architecture to advance its standing, especially in engineering, relative to local competition like Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Boston University. Nowhere is this more evident than in a new 600,000-square-foot, two-building engineering and science complex designed by PAYETTE. “With these two buildings Northeastern wants to announce its presence as a major research university,” says Kevin Sullivan, who oversaw the design of the buildings and also serves as Payette’s president and CEO. The district’s first phase was the Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Complex (ISEC), which opened to great acclaim in 2017, winning the Boston Society for Architecture’s coveted Harleston Parker Medal. EXP, a 350,000-square-foot building that completes the ensemble, opened in fall 2023. https://lnkd.in/enCw2hJf

✨ The significance of neuro-inclusive design. One of our modulyss Talks series has shed light on the transformative potential of neuro-inclusive design in architecture. #Neurodiversity #InclusiveDesign #modulyssTalks #ArchitecturalInnovation #PositiveChange #SupportAllChildren
In these times, it’s more crucial than ever to consider the significance of neuro-inclusive design. As many parents and children receive school results, we witness the impact of supportive environments. However, difficult summer holidays filled with self-doubt don’t reflect children’s abilities; rather, they highlight society’s failure to provide adequate support. One of our modulyss Talks series has shed light on the transformative potential of neuro-inclusive design in architecture. It’s time for brands together with the A&D community to step up, innovate, and create environments where every child’s potential is not only recognized but also nurtured. Let’s champion neuro-inclusive design and make a real difference. You can read our insights and watch the talks by expert leaders Jess Meredith, Mark Ellerby and Gillian Burgis Smith at https://lnkd.in/dvp88Ej3 #Neurodiversity #InclusiveDesign #modulyssTalks #ArchitecturalInnovation #PositiveChange #SupportAllChildren

There is a stark difference in the Gurukul system of education and the Western system which we have implemented since the British Raj. The Gurukul system allowed for the *theoretical* and practical learnings to occur simultaneously. it was a much longer system, and required complete dedication of the learners and teachers. it also led to a deep, intellectually intimate relationship, and as a result, the knowledge passed from one generation to another in a seamless and most original way possible. The Western system seems to resolve the issue of time and provides a lot more comfort to the educator and student both. Learning time is limited not just to a few years for certification, it also limits the number of hours dedicated everyday. As a result, it makes the education process a lot more commercialized. It also takes away the possibilities that the original method of transfer of knowledge fostered. #education #marketing #architecture
Story IV : Basic Education Architectural education cultivates curiosity and critical thinking in students. It trains them to identify unseen elements, fostering a unique perspective that shapes their designs and future careers. In this story, Professor Ar. Nachiket Kalle and Ar. Chitra Vishwanath discuss how architecture as a course paves the journey as a student invests all their energy into unlearning what 12 years of the westernized educational system has taught them. #importanceofdesign #architecturalimpact #careerpaths #architecturerecruitment #architalent #architecturaleducation #designeducation #shapingdesigners https://lnkd.in/dB8HmQhk

Are you having any fun? This was the leading question in shaping the #designforinnovation seminar I gave to the MSc students of the #cityofinnovation course by Manuela Triggianese. By using playful methods I introduced the students to #speculativedesign and methods for #collectiveimagination to spark #creativity in design for architecture of the #future. Design education should be playful - just as the act of creation is. Doing it together adds to the variety of ideas, imaginations and creativity - in turn leading to more innovation! #activatingdesigneducation #complexprojects #cocreation #designthinking #buildingknowledge
