This is a photo of me at 19 or 20, taken during London Fashion Week after the show by the studio where I was interning. The interns, including myself, had worked tirelessly for 36 hours straight before the runway show (you can probably see the dark circles under my eyes). María Mediavilla and I have countless stories from this time, best shared over a bottle of wine. Looking back, I was always in such a rush. I was eager to get 'there,' to climb the ladder and reach the next stage. I had a whirlwind of ideas, plans, and ambitions, and I was desperate to achieve them as quickly as possible. In my haste, I missed out on enjoying many moments simply because they weren't the end goal. I was so focused on where I wanted to be that I overlooked the journey itself. With time, I've gained a patience that 19-year-old Georgina couldn't have imagined. Now, as I work on projects, build my business, and plan for future goals, I find joy in the work, the process, and the journey. Yet, every now and then (especially with the influence of social media), I feel a surge of that old frustration, wishing everything would come together faster. Last night I watched a commercial for Skechers Slip-Ins. If you haven't seen them, they are just sneakers designed to be slipped on and off, but shaped more like a traditional lace sneaker. They have a specially shaped and formulated heel so that it stretches to accommodate your foot without losing shape, but has special heel foam so it's comfy. At first, I thought..."How dumb is that!". Then I remembered how much I actually hate tying shoes some times and how my kids (and my husband) just step on the backs. So, this shoe that sounds so ridiculous and specific is kind of genius. And exactly the kind of perfect fit (pun intended) that I work to achieve with my clients. It's so tempting when you are job searching, especially when coming from a place where you are unhappy or out of work, to put forth messaging like "I'm great at everything" or "I'll do whatever, I can learn!". While these things may absolutely be true, they are not going to get you hired. Job searching is problem solving. When hiring managers or companies post a job, they have a problem and are hiring someone to solve it. When you have an electrical problem, you don't look for a smart guy to solve it. You hire an electrician. The same goes for job searching. The more targeted and specific you can get around the types of companies and challenges you're uniquely positioned to solve for, the faster you'll land in the right role. My MARC branding framework is the guide I use to do this, helping clients show up in a way that is measurable, authentic, relevant, and clear. Today marks 4 years of growth, learning, and adventure with MUD Jeans where I started as an intern back in 2020! 👖 Looking back and reflecting, I thought of 4 things that shaped my experience in past 4 years: 1️⃣ Embrace Challenges: In a dynamic environment, challenges are inevitable. Whether it's navigating market uncertainties or overcoming resource constraints. Each obstacle has pushed me to think creatively and find solutions that drive our mission forward. 2️⃣ Power of Team Collaboration: Collaborating closely with a tight-knit team has been integral to MUD. Great products are made by great teams. 3️⃣ Nurture Bold Ideas: From revolutionising sustainable fashion practices with the lease system to redefining customer purchase behaviour, I've learned the importance of nurturing ideas and pushing boundaries to drive meaningful change in the world. 4️⃣ Continuous Learning & Adaptation: In the fast-paced industry landscape, adaptability is key. Over the past four years, I've embraced a mindset of continuous learning and adaptation, evolving to meet the needs of the team but also my personal goals. And lastly, I’m super grateful for the invaluable experiences and collective success!
