One of the awesome moments of connecting great people to great companies that gets you pumped about what you do. More details to follow on the how, but this candidate is actually a former pastry chef and Lune wanting to shift into the financial world, but wasn't getting a foot in the door. Having food available at your taproom is a sales booster, keeping patrons in seats longer and potentially attracting a wider audience. But food programs aren't one-size-fits-all. Beyond the brewpub model, what options make the most sense for what breweries--food truck rotations? More permanent food vendor partnerships? Hiring for an in-house kitchen? I talked to different breweries succeeding with different methods for Brewing Industry Guide:

I can disappear for months and my restaurants still thrive. You might think that’s impossible in the food industry. After all, it's a people business, right? How can everything run smoothly without constant oversight? The secret isn’t about systems or technology (though those help). It's about the people. I don’t just hire based on resumes. I look for potential, for heart. I've hired dishwashers with dreams of being a chef. I've hired servers who are shy but love people. I've hired hosts who stutter when nervous. I've hired people with big personalities. I've hired cooks who burnt toast once. I've hired people with tattoos. Why? Because these are the individuals who rise to the occasion. When the chips are down, they step up. They don't just follow a manual. They bring their unique spark to the table. But when push comes to shove, they rise to the occasion. Their spirit. Their dedication. Their heart. That’s what makes the difference. It’s not about perfection. It’s about potential. And I’m lucky to have a team that consistently exceeds it. #restaurant #business #experience #linkedin #team #potential

Stopped by a cute candy store near my house last weekend (true story). A little kid was trying to decide between chocolates and gummy bears. The cheerful store clerk noticed the dilemma and offered the kid a small sample of each. Happy with the treats, the child giggled but still seemed undecided. The clerk then made it a game, asking, "Which one makes you do the biggest happy dance?" After a mini dance-off, the child enthusiastically picked the gummies! It was just a simple candy choice. But her joyful approach made that kid’s day, and mine too :) It was such a heartwarming scene, and it really shows something important about hiring: the secret to finding the right people isn't just about what they do; it's how they do it that matters most. That’s because how we do anything is how we do everything. When she graduates from university (we had a little chat) and moves into her professional career, you can bet she'll bring the same energy to whatever she does. She’s not just going to be successful in her job; she’s going to be successful in life. Because that’s just how she is—joyous in every task, no matter how sweet or small. #hiringstrategy ##JobSuccess #CareerDevelopment #PositiveImpact #ServiceExcellence

I get a lot of questions about the 🥐 before my name. It’s primarily due to my 10-year career as a Pastry Chef & Baker prior to SaaS sales. 8 of those years I was in breakfast pastries, & making them fresh everyday meant working from 3:30am to at least 3:30pm (you worked until the prep list was clear) 6 days a week - if we're talking grind💀 However, it's specifically a 🥐 due to my specialization in French pastries, laminated dough & Viennoiserie- the bridge between French pastry & bread. Think any yeasted dough with hundreds of flakey layers like croissants, danishes, or my fave, the kouign-amann. I was also a pastry cook (part time at 50 hours/week - yes, you read correctly) while going to French Pastry School five mornings/week (if we're really talkin' grind ⚙) I think about those days often, but more deeply when I'm in job hunt & interview mode, as so many are these days. When I was transitioning from kitchen to cubicle, I noticed hiring managers weren't connecting my transferable skills in the kitchen to my potential skill in a sales/account management role. It was 2014 & they weren't accustomed to hiring outside a typical candidate profile. I was just a guy who made food. I learned to connect the dots for them. This was the beginning of my love for crafting an impactful, informative, value-focused story 🤔 I fell flat on my face many times before I found my unique voice & was able to confidently convey the value I would bring to a team in corporate America based on firsthand stories & evidence from my experience in the kitchen. With zero experience, I beat 15 experienced candidates to get my first Sales gig- looking at you, Michelle Levy (Matthew Blume, even though Andy snagged me😆) A good story = 💪 I still use stories from my time in the kitchen as examples today. Thanks to shows like The Bear & Top Chef, more people understand the deeper value in things like mise en place or "yes, chef" & "heard" along with the teamwork that is required. It's become easier to help people connect the dots, but we're still not all the way there when it comes to hiring different or unconventional backgrounds. As I'm typing, I've realized: this is the intro to 🥐Croissant Chronicles🥐 (al a Kol Souers' Friday Father Feelings🦙 💛) where I'll attempt to shed light on transferable skills & the value of building teams with diverse backgrounds & experiences for a more productive, progressive team. I'll do my best to illustrate this through my first hand experiences as an individual contributor, manager, & executive in both the kitchen & SaaS Sales, as well as insights I've gleaned along the way. Oof, that's a lofty goal with no posts on deck, but I feel passionately about broad experience fostering a stronger, more holistic approach to business and sales (clearly, just look at my resume 🙃 ) Let's see how this goes! Chime in with your stories! Stronger through sharing 🤝
