Kubota’s Water Manifesto: Safeguarding Water for the Future – KUBOTA STORIES For decades, Japan has experienced frequent large-scale earthquakes and climate-related disasters. These have damaged aging water pipes, making it difficult for people to obtain water. To ensure a safe and reliable water supply in the future, Kubota last year issued a Manifesto on the Future of Waterworks, a list of eleven articles of its commitment toward 2030. In this article, Takashi Ichikawa, Executive Officer and General Manager of the Pipe Systems Division, talks about its aims and what inspired it. Kudos to Kubota! One should read the book, Cadillac Desert by Marc Reisner. Cadillac Desert (1986) is an American history book by Marc Reisner about land development and water policy in the western United States. Subtitled The American West and Its Disappearing Water, it explores the history of the federal agencies, Bureau of Reclamation and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and their struggles to remake the American West in ways to satisfy national settlement goals. The book concludes that the development-driven policies, formed when settling the West was the country's main concern, have had serious long-term negative effects on the environment and water quantity. The book was revised and updated in 1993. The book changed my perspective on water and its role with respect to humanity. THANK YOU KUBOTA!
