Cybersecurity experts predict this will be the largest IT outage in history. Despite CrowdStrike's shares plummeting 12% in pre-market trading in New York, the company's CEO clarified that the outage was not the result of a cyberattack. This might not be a cyber attack, but this is a major security incident. When you impact ‘A’ in CIA triad, it’s a security incident of highest priority. Be it due to a bug (human error), or an external attack. I use Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, so I'm okay ;) I think it's time for organizations to consider Microsoft Defender for Endpoint - is the best alternative at the moment.

CrowdStrike eyes Action1 for $1B amid fallout from Falcon update mishap The acquisition could help CrowdStrike improve testing and deployment of updates to avoid Falcon-like failures. Cybersecurity giant CrowdStrike is in talks to acquire Action1, a cloud-based patch management and vulnerability remediation company for close to $1 billion. According to a source close to the matter who requested anonymity, Alex Vovk, CEO and co-founder of Action1 shared this news with employees in an internal email. This potential acquisition could be a strategic move for CrowdStrike, especially in the wake of the recent Falcon update error that caused a global Windows outage. Due to the current worldwide IT outage, I'm really wondering what the Gartner rating in 2024 would look like. As at 2023, CrowdStrike was the best globally in endpoint protection. Although, this current crisis wasn't caused by a cyber breach which implies that their premium IT security solutions are still highly effective. However, CISOs, CTOs, CEOs and stakeholders around the world would want to know how a routine software update could cause a cascading disaster like this. I wish CrowdStrike and businesses around the world a quick recovery. Lessons learnt should be used as a strategy to prevent any recurrence in the future.
