The biggest thank you to you all. Wow, I don’t know how it happened but you very lovely people helped me gain lots more followers last week, over 240,000 impressions, over 3600 reactions and hundreds of comments. It’s certainly kept me and Mum busy and we want to say a VERY BIG THANK YOU!🤩 Many of you have followed me for a long time, thank you for always being interested and so kind to me. If you’re new, I thought it would help if I told you a little bit about me. I’m 25 years old, I have Down’s Syndrome, I love going to work at Marshall Fleet Solutions - Thermo King. I started work in August 2022 as a Parts Assistant. I love working, it makes me so happy, I’ve learned new things, I’m more independent and I love earning money and choosing how to spend it. I have great buddies at work and lots of support. I love my family and friends, I really enjoy holidays and going out - especially to the pub. If you saw my post last week you know I love my new PS5, I go boxing every week and horse riding. I’m a very proud Newcastle United fan. With Mum helping me I post every week on LinkedIn. I want everyone to know that people with different disabilities can work and do a great job, we all just need a chance. If you’re an employer please think how you could help. “How on earth am I supposed to keep my numbers up when these kids keep getting SICK?” 👶🏻👧🏻 One of the many questions I asked Chloë Lowe - likely through tears - in my early Kforce Inc days. The biggest perk of work travel is face time with friends across the country who you’d rarely have a chance to see otherwise, and when yesterday brought me to San Diego (on my birthday!), I jumped at the chance to call this woman. Chloe was my lifeline for so many years. 📈 In our search and staffing world, the President’s Club top 10 list was mostly men. Chloe and I were equally ambitious - we never questioned that we’d be on those lists and attending those killer incentive trips! 📈 But we also had kids around the same time (early 2010s). Our husbands also have careers that demanded their time. So from coast to coast… we leaned on each other. We knew we’d need to check in with each other to help navigate trying to be good moms AND crush the recruiting and sales game. 📈 There were a few years that we both had toddlers and a newborns at our ankles, and sometimes we wonder how we got through THAT. 🤣 We did, and we stayed on those lists, and it wasn’t easy… but it was always together and in community. If I called, she answered. Yesterday we got to catch up over the fact that our kids are all middle schoolers, and celebrate two decades since I entered that career that ended up spanning 14 years. I’m so grateful that this one is still in my life and in my corner. We are excited to feature Chantal Williamson, iHR's Senior VP, Human Resources (GTA), for our Employee Feature of the Month! “I was born in Alberta but spent most of my childhood living in Pickering and went to high school in Whitby. I moved to Ottawa for university and stayed there for 8 years before I returned to Whitby in 2006, where I live now with my husband and two kids.   I have always been very career driven and love working in human resources. I met Karen Brownrigg, CHRL, CEC at the beginning of my career, while living and working in Ottawa. Karen has always been a great mentor and, with the help of social media, we were able to stay connected.     In 2023, I had a year of reflection and took the time to evaluate where and how I want to spend my time. I have a young family and I want to be involved and present for these special years. During my time of reflection, I made the decision to focus on happiness! This led me to make some life changes including joining iHR in September 2023, and I am so happy I did!   I would like to share with you a few other things that make me happy and hopefully you can take a moment to find the happiness in your day.   1. Relationships – Friends and family, colleagues, and clients. I love learning from other people, spending time together, exchanging stories, creating memories, and having a good laugh. I am very grateful for the special people in my life and having time with them makes me happy. 2. My kids – Yes, this is another relationship, but these are particularly special ones. I love living life through their eyes, watching them grow, learn, and become their own person. I love seeing the joy I bring them by just showing up and being present. 3. Helping people – Remember all those relationships, I love helping them. I like being an expert in an area and giving advice or just being there to listen. I like when I can make someone else’s day easier or better.   I also love working out, travelling, and finding moments to relax. One of my wise friends always says, ‘happiness is a journey, not a destination’ and I will continue on this journey, while doing my best to take those around with me.” #humanresources #employeespotlight #findhappiness

As a little girl, my grandmother used to shoot birds with a slingshot alongside the neighborhood boys. As her granddaughter, I never had the chance to ask her why she did such a terrible thing. I love birds. They are a constant reminder that I have been given wings to fly. The birds outside my home office window remind me of this every day. When I was a SAHM (a term I dislike because mothers never truly "stay at home"), I did everything I could to give my kids wings to fly. I put off flying myself because I wanted them to fly.. Today, all five of my kids have flown the nest. And even though I work from home, I now feel like I’m flying every day. Having wings to fly means different things to different people, but for me, it means having the support, courage, and opportunity to pursue my dreams and make an impact—both at home and in my career. But some people feel like their wings have been clipped. It's been so long that they can't even remember what it feels like to fly. I know, because this used to be me. Here's what I can suggest, if this is you: 🚀 Recognize your unique strengths and passions 🚀 Welcome opportunities for growth and learning (even when it's hard) 🚀 Build and leverage your support network I hope I can help others find their wings again. Sometimes, we just need to help others open the door of their cage. Company pet peeves? When your workplace insists on calling itself 'a family.' I get what they’re going for But the fact is, it’s just not true and it’s not needed. Here’s why 👉 Work isn’t Family: We've got families, and work doesn’t need to assume that role. No matter how much I love my job, it's not a replacement for the support and unconditional love my family provides. 👉 No Lay Offs at Home: My family won't suddenly decide to "let me go" because they found someone more "qualified." Families don't operate with hidden agendas; they simply want what’s best for you. 👉 My Manager Isn’t My Mum: Last time I checked, my manager isn't my mum, or dad for that matter! Work relationships should be built on respect, collaboration, and shared goals, not familial ties. 👉 Work Should Be Fun: I truly believe in enjoying my work and having a blast with my colleagues, but it shouldn't resemble some bizarre family dynamic. Companies need to understand they don’t need to be our families. What they do need is to provide us with an environment where we feel safe to do our best work a place where we can develop, grow, and thrive. It's not about mimicking family dynamics.
