The 4 Day Workweek. Why Not?  The whole idea of a 40 hour work week, is just what we're used to. There may be better ways to manage our human lives. It's good to reflect on what we really need to get done, and whether giving people 20% less time to do it in might work out well for everyone. #hrlaw #law #employmentlaw

https://lnkd.in/gYsQktKS Can a 6-day work week solve some of the labor shortages in the public sector in Quebec? The standard work week in Quebec is 40 hours. In Quebec, overtime is at 1.5 and a worker can refuse to work past a certain number of hours. A worker can refuse to work more than 50 h/wk and must have a weekly rest period of at least 32 consecutive hours (ex. cannot be forced to work 7 days/wk). Daily, a worker can refuse to work more than four additional hours of their regular shift or more than 14 hours in 24 hours, whichever is shorter. Anything over 40h/wk is considered overtime i.e., paid at 1.5. In Greece with the new rules, it will be 1.4x but enforced i.e., with the 6-day work week for certain professions. In the legal profession, it is common for lawyers to work 50 billable hours a week. What would lawyers say to something like this? Would you agree to this in the Health or Education sector? Would it solve any of the current problems in these sectors? I am not sure such a change would increase productivity. Interesting implications including the effect on traffic congestion. I guess we stagger days off? Or only offer it to certain roles? Does this also result in more people employed? The history behind time and a half pay for overtime was an attempt to get employers to hire more ppl instead of expecting existing staff to just work longer. How much time do all of us waste trying to adhere to 40 hour work week? How much is really productive work? Has technology and other workflow efficiencies allowed us to accomplish more in less time where 40 hours really is an arbitrary irrelevant number anyway?

For junior positions, where workload handover may not be as complex and replacements can be found relatively easily, a shorter notice period might seem more reasonable.
