Big thumbs-up to the New Orleans Police Department for continuing to promote the importance of active bystandership to its members. The national ABLE Project at Georgetown Law CICS, which now counts more than 365 law enforcement agencies among its members, is an outgrowth of the EPIC program, developed by NOPD officers working hand-in-hand with New Orleans civil rights leaders. ABLE teaches officers the skills and tactics of active bystandership to prevent harm to community members and officers. These allegations are yet another stark reminder of the systemic issues plaguing our law enforcement and the urgent need for comprehensive reform.
