Not to mention the massive investment google has made in 500+ acres in North KC. 💲 We can also thank Mike Parson and Tim Cowden for bringing this one into our region. We can speculate all day on why this keeps happening (mostly due to hard work and the work ethic of the region) but this means more jobs, more well paying jobs, more travel, more tourism thefore...more jobs and a need for more housing! 📉 Important Update from Freyr Battery 📉 On Thursday, Freyr Battery announced a significant downscale to adapt to new market conditions for battery cells. CEO Tom Jensen shared the difficult news that the company must reduce its workforce to ensure financial stability. Freyr has about 60 employees in Mo i Rana and 180 in total. The most significant reductions will occur in there. Despite the challenges, Freyr still considers Mo i Rana the best place in Norway for battery production. 🌍 Challenges: - Low prices of battery cells produced in China make it difficult to compete. - Customers are often unwilling to pay more for products produced in Norway. 🔄 Recent Changes: -In November last year, Freyr laid off 78 employees, including 10 in Mo i Rana. - The construction of the Giga Arctic factory has been paused. - The factory will now be used to pack several batteries into larger units for higher voltage or power. 💡 Support and Compensation: Freyr has received 200 million NOK in government support and more in loan guarantees. Former CEO Tom Einar Jensen received a total of 27 million NOK in salary and bonus for 2021. The board received over 60 million NOK in total compensation in 2022. Twenty years ago this week was the most important three days of my 33+ year career at Texas Instruments. It was the week we convened a design charrette with about 30 TI employees and a dozen folks from RMI. We set out to design the most resource efficient wafer fab in the world - and we eventually exceeded our own lofty goals in the fab built in Richardson, TX. All the detail are in my book, and I pulled this paragraph out that I wrote about the visionaries from who came from RMI and helped inspire us to go beyond what anyone thought was possible. From my book The Joy of Efficiency (https://lnkd.in/einHJ84): "One thing I’ve come to realize over the years is people who are real visionaries and can see a better path forward spend a lot of time planting seeds (ideas). Not all of those seeds will germinate and grow—in fact, most don’t. But the visionaries never give up or linger on the ones that don’t bear fruit. They just keep planting. It only takes a few of those seeds sprouting to lead to great improvements. And sprouting one of those seeds means someone had to nurture and care for it until it grew large enough to be seen by all. I knew what my role was within our company. I had to protect and nurture that seed, and I had to line up enough allies to protect and nurture that seed with me." The fab ended up being over 40% more energy efficient than the typical fab of those days - and cost 30% LESS to build. Today marks five years since our first piece of equipment, that we brought back from China, was placed into an empty building in the Mon Valley. With just a handful of dedicated employees, we embarked on a strategy to turn that building into a vibrant world class clean energy manufacturing facility. From that humble beginning we’ve now grown into over 400 dedicated team members companywide. Together, we've accomplished something extraordinary: becoming which we believe to be the first scalable long duration energy storage provider to offer a safe (non-flammable), sustainable (fully recyclable), functionally silent (low noise when operating) and secure (U.S. designed & built) energy storage alternative. What makes this achievement even more special? Our solution was not only invented with American minds and built with American hands, but it’s also built using 91% U.S.-sourced components. Over these five years, we’ve worked tirelessly to build an American supply chain that is helping turn the "Rust Belt" into the "Green Belt." This achievement stands as a testament to the dedication, innovation, and collaboration of every Eos team member, and the many partners who have worked alongside us to breathe new life into that once-empty building.
