Top stories today ⚠️ National Grid chastised over delays to stopgap connections process https://buff.ly/3T0SFR9 National Grid has been chastised by Ofgem over its implementation of a temporary two-step process for offering connections to the power grid. The regulator said the process is now expected to bring little or no improvement in connection dates for the majority of customers. It has nevertheless granted a joint request by National Grid ESO and National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) to extend the deadline for providing revised offers to customers. 🐙 Block tariffs could hinder uptake of time-of-use deals, Octopus warns https://buff.ly/49VPvoG Reforming tariffs so that the highest users pay the greatest unit charges would hinder the uptake of time-of-use deals, Octopus Energy has warned. The supplier has urged MPs to back away from their previous support for replacing standing charges with so-called block tariffs. This type of deal, which has been rolled out in Dubai, creates a sliding scale for electricity prices with those in the top usage block paying the most per unit and then progressively reducing. 📈 Ofgem’s growth duty is a symptom of the mess we’re in https://buff.ly/4bYHjpO Ofgem’s number of statutory responsibilities has hit 15 with the extension of the growth duty. Writing for Utility Week, Hill & Knowlton London managing director of public affairs Tara Singh posits that the regulator's ever-increasing list of duties is a symptom, not a cure, to the mess we are in.

Wonder if there's already Time of Use (ToU) tariffs in place to help "soak up" excess solar-generated electricity. EV users would definitely welcome cheaper tariffs to charge their cars during peak production hours (1200-1700h?). Some places in Australia even give free electricity between 1000-1500! https://lnkd.in/gMmMZtUp

Changes to AD/CVD investigation procedures have gone into effect (4/24), broadening the interpretation of "unfair trade practices" and giving the Department of Commerce the ability to set higher tariffs. We anticipate new petitions that challenge current trade practices to follow shortly. The #IRA has led to a boon in US solar manufacturing and there is a lot of political incentive to protect that new growth from unfair trade practices. But it's complicated. The industry still depends on foreign imports to meet demand. Solar integrators and developers have a lot to navigate when making purchasing decisions. That's where Kinect Solar comes in. We help solar companies navigate complex supply chain challenges, from identifying trade risks during procurement to managing involved project logistics. Don't go it alone. Let us help. #ADCVD #USManufacturing #SolarEquipment #KinectSolar

Bitter Pill or Sweet Medicine? New anti-dumping and countervailing duties (AD/CVD) could potentially increase the prices of solar panels in the US by 15 cents per watt, potentially shocking the industry. However, higher tariffs on solar panels could boost U.S. jobs and innovation in panel manufacturing, reducing pollution and fossil fuel use. On the bright side, I remain pretty much optimistic that this decision will propel KB Racking forward, given our competitive pricing advantage. #SolarEnergyLeadership #RenewableEnergySolutions #ADCVDDuties #FlatRoofSolar #CommercialSolarProjects #SolarRacking
A new report from Clean Energy Associates (CEA) outlines how new tariffs from the latest antidumping and countervailing duty (AD/CVD) investigation on solar cells and panels could increase costs to a level that would significantly restrict solar supply and installations in the United States.
Analysis says new AD/CVD could raise panel prices in US by 15¢/W on top of everything else

An interesting new report from Sierra Club, the leading US NGO, is on how load growth can drive clean demand. They draw similar conclusions to many academics, regulators and experts - 24/7 CFE is a good tool for controlling the emissions of load growth and ensuring this it's an opportunity for clean tech and not for coal and gas. Their recommendations around clean-firm utility tariffs, 24/7 goals for large consumers, and the expedited rollout of hourly RECs are vital. Let's hope this further spurs the environmental community in the US to push for better clean power procurement and accounting. Report here: https://lnkd.in/e773yuQZ

🔄 Customer switching rates in the energy market have doubled since 2022, but we're still far from the levels seen pre-energy crisis 📈 The long-term trend of customers switching away from large legacy suppliers is continuing, with net gains for non-legacy and small suppliers Although discounts against SVT are available again, John de Bono's analysis shows these haven't been large enough to drive switching at the levels seen previously. But the number of customers on active-choice tariffs has increased for the first time since the energy crisis, climbing to ~16%. If Ofgem remove the Ban on Acquisition-only Tariffs (BAT), we could potentially see larger discounts available, which woulds see a further increase in switching rates. #Energy #Utilities

Seems that just about everyone recognizes we need more transmission to power the #cleanenergytransition , which is why this debate is intensifying. Will more competition put downward pressure on transmission tariffs? Can incumbent utilities install lines more quickly? The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has a tough decision on their hands.

Together with colleagues from the energy ⚡️ workshop we discussed important issues that concern people: - energy policy; - energy saving; - tariffs; - the need for cooperation between business, local communities and government institutions in order to introduce an effective co-financing system for decentralized cogeneration. We came out as like-minded people 🤝 We know what the economy needs today. I hope we will be heard🇺🇦✌️ https://lnkd.in/d-VaB8KA
