U.S. Dept of Ed Expected to Announce $5 Million School Climate Grant in Spring Five-Session Grant Prep Course Led by Dr. Howie Knoff (a five-time Climate Grant recipient) Begins in November to Help Write a Winning Proposal The U.S. DoE’s School Climate Transformation Grant is a five-year $5 million open competition for districts across the US. 140 grants were awarded in the 2014 and 2019 cycles, and the next Request for Proposals (RFP) is expected this Spring. The Grant helps districts upgrade their evidence-based multi-tiered school climate, classroom management, and student social, emotional, and behavioral systems. Breaking Down the Wall Between General and Special Education Teachers in Our Schools: How Organizational Missteps Create Classroom Barriers This Blog discusses the wall between General Education and Special Education Teachers that has existed since Students with Disabilities were fully included in our nation’s public schools in the mid-1970s. Organized in five “columns” (that support the Wall), the Blog identifies bricks that need to be dislodged (i.e., changed) so the Wall can come down. Many recommendations focus on changing staff and administrative beliefs, policies, procedures, or practices. The five columns holding the wall up are: Organizational, Supervision and Accountability, Professional Development and Consultation/Relationship, Instructional Skill and Collaboration/Teaming, and Persistence and Success barriers.
