HAPPY NEW YEAR We are proud to begin another year side-by-side with the members of this community. The blessing and the curse of our line of work is that we see people most when they are at some of the lowest points in their lives - after a serious accident, at work, or on the road; perhaps even after a loved one has tragically died due to someone else’s negligence. All too often, when someone walks through the door into our offices, it is because they are suffering terribly, and exhausted from fighting on their own for far too long. We also get to see the extraordinary resilience our friends and neighbors show in the face of genuine hardship - and, sometimes, we get to fight by their sides. As this new year begins, we renew our commitment to fight for our clients, to support our community, and to honor the principles we all hold dear. In 2024, may we all find work that inspires us, and may we ever find the strength to do it well. As first responders we need to reflect on the good that we do in our communities, not to boost our egos but to help heal the trauma we endure over a career. It will better equip us to deal with the disquieting memories when they come. Good leaders have to be the example in this and show their people how to heal. Help your people to reflect on the differences they’ve made to bolster their self worth and overcome the times when tragedy can’t be avoided.
𝑭𝙧𝒐𝙢 𝙇𝒊𝙛𝒆 𝑺𝙖𝒗𝙚𝒅 𝒕𝙤 𝙇𝒊𝙛𝒆𝙡𝒐𝙣𝒈 𝑩𝙤𝒏𝙙𝒔. A simple question of “do you remember me?” made this morning’s Swearing-In Ceremony of Deputy Fire Chief Stephen Shaw even more special. Planning and Zoning employee Michael Schneider recognized Stephen right away as the man who saved his life over a decade ago and approached him after the ceremony for a heartfelt reunion. When Michael asked Stephen if he recognized him, Stephen's expression said it all. The two met on September 23, 2013 - a day Michael now views as his second birthday - when Michael was hit by a car on the Florida Turnpike in south Broward County. Stephen, who was off duty at the time, witnessed the accident, pulled out the trauma bag he kept in his vehicle at all times and got to work. As Stephen approached, he saw that Michael wasn't breathing and his pulse was weak. He quickly began performing CPR, reviving Michael. Michael was airlifted to Broward Health North and miraculously survived, in large part due to Stephen’s quick response. This morning, the two embraced as if they were lifelong friends, their relationship established because of Stephen’s heroic actions. It was a tearful, happy exchange as the two realized they were brought together to work in the same organization, serving the same community. It’s obvious that the two will become much more than co-workers as they work together in this special Town, continuing with the tradition of being “Uniquely Jupiter.” #BeaconOfExcellence #JupiterFireRescue #CommunityHeroes #JFRD #TownOfJupiter #BeginningFromExcellence

A letter from our President and Executive Officer regarding recent organizational challenges and the loss of a respected leader in our organization: In recent weeks, Minnesota Community Care (MCC) has experienced significant challenges, including property damage at our two largest sites and the sudden and devastating loss of our VP of Finance, Boakai Dorley. We recognize that these unforeseen events have shaken the organization and its leadership. However, we have also seen our organization’s capacity for resilience. Recognizing this admirable strength and resilience, we also want to hold space for concerns and questions that staff may have. We are also taking this time to grow as an organization and a team, improve our processes and provide proactive solutions to future needs. Our focus is two-fold: 1) to take care of the socio-emotional well-being of all staff by ensuring seamless access to our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and 2) to sustain essential business, including critical operations and core business lines. I encourage you all to ask for help, offer each other grace, prioritize self-care and their individual work/life balance and raise concerns or questions to HR and Leadership as we continue navigating these difficult events. Our hearts and minds continue to be with the family of Boakai Dorley. Please visit the link below for more information on how you can support his family during their time of mourning. https://gofund.me/6815ff70

In this video, we unveil the heart of CBPS Collective and what we stand for. When we think about addressing violence within our communities, our minds often turn to law enforcement. But here's the truth: You can't have public safety without the public. To truly make a difference, we must work with those within the community. At its core, CBPS Collective is about investing in black and brown leadership in communities impacted by violence across the country. These leaders have long been under-resourced and deserve our support. Our dedicated team members discuss our mediation process and guide individuals in creating a culture of peace within neighborhoods. We actively seek out organizations in need and provide the funding they require. We're here to do the work, to help people save lives, and to empower leaders within the community. Public safety, to us, means fostering a presence of well-being to support victims and survivors. With the funding we provide, communities can hire new talent, build infrastructure, and scale their programs. Join us as we share stories and insights that showcase our commitment to building capacity and strengthening communities. https://lnkd.in/gfZejqKv #grants #publicsafety #publichealth #communityempowerment #violenceprevention #surviorseries #supprot #cvi #nonprofit #nonprofitorganization #community

Water ... its all around us. Be it a trip to the seaside, you live near a river or you take a stroll with your kids around a nature reserve where there are lakes for the wildlife to enjoy. However, of course, there are dangers. Many, many years ago a very good friend of mine almost didn't live to have a glittering career in the Army and raise three beautiful daughters. He got lucky. He was surrounded by people who acted fast and knew how to sustain his life until we could get him to a safe place. This week is the Royal Life Saving Society UK - RLSS UK #NationalDrowningPreventionWeek. The point is not to frighten. Water is there to be enjoyed. But you also need to be aware of the dangers. Please, please, please do educate the ones you love on how to behave on and around water. There are some really great materials available on the #RLSS website that contains the key messages in a way that's suitable for people of all ages to digest. Please do share this post to all of your connections. Thank you 🙏
