🔍 Understanding America's true history can fundamentally change how we relate to our family's past, our personal experiences, how our communities were shaped, and more. That is one of the reasons why unearthing and honoring the names and stories of enslaved Black people is so important. It can educate us, help us heal, and know where we come from. This Black History Month, we are proud to be in community with groups like BLOC, an organization having face-to-face conversations on the ground, transforming Milwaukee's Black community one door knock at a time. They are invested in building long-term political power, reimagining what public safety looks like, empowering leaders with tools to evoke change, and ending mass incarceration and the over-policing of Black communities, two of the remaining vestiges of American chattel slavery. https://lnkd.in/ehKeqxF

I am so proud of this organization and the event they held recently. This is the type of newsworthy things that happen in Bayview that are not covered on Main Street media. Recently the news has covered AA in a negative way. This is definitely a win. Keep up the good work. #bayview#fathers#daughters#family#chamgethenarrative#communitywin#native#proudmoment#
Bayview at its best is when over 250 Black families fill the Ruth Williams Bayview Opera House with fathers and daughters celebrating life! This past weekend was a beautiful celebration of community and fatherhood. "Dads came through in fresh haircuts, velvet blazers and Hawaiian prints and daughters glided in princess gowns alongside proud family and community members during an afternoon and evening of joyful moments." Thank you to Paul B. of Bay Area Zap Zone for organizing and always pulling the community together. Thank you also to the wonderful community partners and awardees from the event. https://lnkd.in/g7SF_8eK

Today in 1865, enslaved people in Texas learned of their freedom, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Recognizing Juneteenth is not just about commemorating the end of slavery; it’s about acknowledging the true history and the long-delayed promise of freedom. Understanding and honoring this history is crucial because it helps us grasp the full scope of systemic racism, the resilience of Black communities, and the ongoing struggle for equity and justice. I'm excited to share this virtual workshop, hosted by the amazing Adrienne J. Lawrence, which educates and empowers organizations to embrace the key aspects of Juneteenth. Delve into the historical significance of Juneteenth and the barriers that impeded emancipation and explore actionable steps you can take to raise awareness and foster a culture of inclusivity within your organization. https://lnkd.in/eSvsWPsC #DEIB #Juneteenth #InclusiveLeader #Equity #Justice

As we commemorate Juneteenth, I want to talk a bit about its significance and why it remains an important observance in the Black community. Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19th, marks the day in 1865 when the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston Bay, Texas, were informed of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. This video clip from the TV sitcom Black-ish, helped educate a global audience on the importance of Juneteenth. The show masterfully used humor to deliver key lessons, prompting viewers to reflect on the historical and cultural significance of Juneteenth. It’s pure satire when the White character at the end of the clip awkwardly says, “That was not uncomfortable at all.” Let’s face it, talking about Black history is uncomfortable whether we go back decades or are talking about it now. Although we have made strides with Juneteenth which represents not just the end of slavery, but a milestone in our nation's pursuit of freedom and human rights, we still have a long way to go. To be frank, we must learn from our history to foster a more inclusive and equitable future. And that’s what I am aiming to do at Pure Storage. What are you doing in your workplaces to build a more inclusive and equitable future for the Black community? Share below and let’s learn from each other in the comments. Let’s GO! #Juneteenth #equality #DEI

🌟 Happy first day of Black History Month! 🌟 Some friendly reminders: 📌 Black history is history and every day is a good day to de-center whiteness. 📌 Applaud Black Excellence, but also embrace and welcome Black mediocrity. 📌 If you want to buy Black History Month merch, it should come from Black Business. (I love https://lnkd.in/g8frvcuh for t-shirts and sweaters.) 📌 Black voices should be delivering your keynote speeches and amplified in all related content.

I’m SO excited to host Network While Black’s second event BLOOM: Separting Your Career From Your Identity on May 14th in NYC. Our inaugural event Network With Intention, was held in January. We brought so many amazing WOC (some men) together, and networked with people from all different fields. Bloom will be a little different. Although we are still emphasizing networking, on May 14th we will be discussing the importance of separating your career from your identity. This topic is very dear to me because as a Stylist in an unsure job market I’ve had to constantly ask myself what am I doing if I’m not working? I didn’t realize that because I’ve spent so much of my 20s chasing my career, that I didn’t know who I was when I wasn’t on set. This past year has been a whirlwind of emotions. Having a slow season in the industry forced me to think of myself as more than just a Stylist, and explore other interests of mine. Network While Black has been an amazinggggg venture for me, and I’m so thankful for this downtime because I was able to BLOOM. I now understand I am not my job, I am not my salary, and I am not just another Stylist. With that being said, be on the lookout for event details!!! It’ll be very intimate, because I want attendees to really get comfortable. 🫶🏾 #networking #networkwhileblack #events #blackbusiness #linkedincreator
Join Network While Black in our second event Bloom on May 14th in NYC. Details coming soon✨

Every soul is in a different stage of evolution. The evolutionary gap between you and your loved ones can be thousands or millions of years in soul development. When you are different, people don't know where to fit you anymore. Your existence transcends their preconceived ideas. When you no longer play the same game of fear and drama like you were conditioned to and you operate on an absolute authentic frequency... you outgrow their energy! A lot of the time those of us who don't fit in (and never really have) or those seen as 'outcasts,' have a much bigger purpose on earth, to create a NEW world! 🔮✨ The outcasts are... ⚡The trend setters ⚡The ones who were never meant to follow the crowd ⚡The ones who see the world differently "Those who are able to see beyond the shadows and lies of their culture will never be understood, let alone believed by the masses!" ~ Plato They will never really be like the "majority." They're here as the system busters, to break the cycle! 🚀💫😊 ♻️ Share if you feel this was helpful #energyshift #transformation #mentalhealth #wellbeing #selfdevelopment #selfgrowth #selfimprovement #selflove #elevation #growthmindset #motivation #healing #higherconsciousness #mindsetmatters #empowerment #freedom #confidence #positivevibes #selfcare #innerpeace #strength #youareenough #resilience #boundaries #priorities #inspiration #healingjourney

The black sheep usually doesn't follow the crowd because every once in a while, the crowd is literally going the wrong way in mass. It takes a black sheep to stand out and say, 'Hey, I think we're headed off a cliff here!' They may be labeled as outcasts or rebels, but in reality, they're the ones who are brave enough to challenge the status quo and forge their own path. Let's celebrate the black sheep in our lives - the ones who inspire us to think differently, to question the norms, and to embrace our individuality. ✨️ -Nuwani Samaranayaka- #celebrateyou #blacksheep #opentoconnect
