Wow!
As I reflect on my journey to my current position, I am reminded to always trust the process. On my journey, there were times when I couldn't understand why I did not get the outcome I wanted and it is now, that I understand I was being led to my calling/my purpose - creating intentional programs for Black students from South Central to be successful.
As STEM manager for Black College Success, I have had the honor of partnering with USC Viterbi School of Engineering and SoLa Impact to bring all things science, technology, engineering, art/architecture/aerospace, and math (STEAM) to 10th-12th grade Black students in South Central LA. I have been with the org a whole year as of March 7th and I do thank them for trusting me to lead such an impactful initiative. I also am grateful for all the experiences that have prepared and guided me to this point!

Reflection of experiences:
1. Being a first-generation student from South Central LA and not knowing how to navigate the college application process I sought help from TRIO, Upward Bound Program.
2. Fast forward, after undergrad I became a college advisor with the USC College Advising Corps assisting students like myself through the college application process. As a CAC advisor I also gained a variety of skills that are relevant to my work today such as, data management, planning, budgeting, facilitating, grant writing, fundraising, network, and the list goes on.
3. After serving with the corp, I transitioned from the k-12 setting to higher education. As an admissions counselor with University of California, Riverside I was able to learn how to become a story teller, recruit, analyze data, problem solve, expand my network and so much more.
4. Simutaneously, I served as a persist coach with SMASH an organization who is leveling the playing field through tech. Now, my background is not in STEM however, through this position I was able to learn more about STEM majors and careers, understand how students should prepapre in high school, through UCR I understand what stands out on an application, and as a coach I understand how students can be successful on campus and after.
