New Original Research article in RRH: Nasal high flow therapy in remote hospitals: guideline development using a modified Delphi technique by Sally West, Donna Franklin, Nichole Harvey and Alice Cairns. https://lnkd.in/geWXQGdd Respiratory disease, usually acute hypoxaemic respiratory failure (AHRF), is the predominant reason for paediatric retrievals from remote areas in northern Australia. AHRF requires oxygen treatment using nasal high flow (NHF) therapy, but although the use of NHF therapy is ubiquitous in Australian tertiary hospitals, implementation is inconsistent in remote Australian hospitals and there is no clear guidance for its use in limited resource environments. The Paediatric FH Register has NIHR funding from 2023 to 2028 to strengthen current evidence on when to start cholesterol-reducing medications in young people with FH. Key questions are:  At what age and cholesterol concentration should treatment be started?  Can current NICE guidance to start by 10 years of age be more specific?  Are there potential side effects and how can they be avoided?  What information and support do young people and families need for starting and continuing treatment?  What is the value for money for the health service based on the costs and benefits of starting medications at various ages and the savings produced by preventing early heart disease?  Although FH is a relatively common genetic condition where people typically have raised cholesterol from birth, it is currently widely underdiagnosed. With the expansion of genetic testing for FH, more children and young people should be diagnosed, further strengthening the need for clear treatment guidelines. https://lnkd.in/eEXSgzHK

🥴Have you been told to accept your child's limitation because they have special needs 🥺Been told that your child with special needs "will always be delayed compared to other children and you should just love them the way they are" Shocking statements, and one would never think that any Health Professionals will ever say such things to parents who have just been informed of their child's diagnosis. Unfortunately, this happens once too many times. We see too many parents coming into our clinic, disheartened, desperate and haunted by these cruel words.
