President and CEO, ChristianaCare

I had the honor of joining the ChristianaCare PRIDE employee resource group for the Progress Flag raising at our Newark campus. We have done this event for a few years, and like always, it is a beautiful display of unity and inclusion.    We call it a flag-raising, but that’s a bit of a misnomer - the Progress Flag has been flying proudly at our campuses since June 2023, when we kicked off Pride 365.    Inclusion isn’t just one day or week or month here at ChristianaCare. It’s every day. It’s in our DNA, from our values and behaviors to our ongoing commitment to provide exceptional care to the LGBTQIA+ community. We believe every patient deserves great care and to feel safe as they receive that care.   This year, we began our “We Ask Because We Care” campaign to ask every patient about their race, ethnicity, language, sexual orientation and gender identity. Learning the answers to these questions allows us to offer more culturally responsive care that focuses on our patient’s specific needs.    We believe what makes us different also makes us stronger – as a community and health system.    There are many ways we celebrate our differences while also creating a culture of belonging:   - ChristianaCare’s Gender Wellness program provides psychotherapy to the transgender and gender-diverse community. - Our PRIDE Employee Resource Group counts 283 members across the system. - We observe Transgender Day of Remembrance each November to honor those who have lost their lives to anti-transgender violence. - Our Health Equity PRIDE Ambassadors increase the capacity of our caregivers to care for our LGBTQIA+ patients and families.   That’s what it means to serve with love and excellence – for everyone. Happy Pride! #PrideMonth #LoveOfHealth
