Critical Project Lesson No.28 – Understanding the "Why" To keep any project moving forward it is imperative that all stakeholders are aligned behind the project. This is best done in understanding the, "why." This does not just mean the business benefits, although these are of course important. To really invoke the power of the, "why" the project manager needs to convey the greater good, the vision of why this project is important. Will it help poor people out of poverty, benefit the environment, assist the sick; whatever the greater vision is this is the why that must be shown by the PM. This will give all project personnel a greater sense of purpose and importance in their work. I was asked why I am doing these three events. So many different reasons.... As some of you may be aware, I serve as a trustee for CureLeukaemia, a charity that holds a special place in my heart. Startling statistics reveal that one person in the UK is diagnosed with a form of Blood Cancer every 14 minutes. Companies now have the opportunity to invest £10,000 in an innovative trial network for children with the aim of raising £1 million. Salesforce is taking the lead in this initiative with a £10,000 pledge. CureLeukaemia's committed team is working towards securing 50 companies by the end of the year, which would amount to £500,000 in contributions. At the recent L2P Celebration event, four companies each pledged £10,000, bringing the total to five out of the targeted 50 companies. There are still 45 more companies to reach the goal.
