The Tesla of boats? Ok. The price point is very different ($258,000) to a consumer EV. But, to me this is the Tesla of wake boats. Fully battery-electric, built by former Tesla and SpaceX engineers and incredible OS. I’ll be honest it; it was a lot of fun to take the Arc Sport out in the Bay. It’s designed for lakes and wide rivers that are the home of wake sports. But she handled beautifully (thanks to drive by wire system) in the salt water. My experience of electric boats before this was taking the Duffy around Newport harbour (IYKYK). The economics of a direct to consumer model and how Arc design/produces the Arc Sport was very interesting. $258K is a big number if you’re not familiar with wake boats. But the market leaders in gas wake boats charge just about the same. Huge thanks to Paayal Zaveri for braving my driving and cruising the Bay with me. A lot of fun shooting (on iPhone by the way) and great work by James Samay for edit and production. Thanks to Arc for the ride and Eclipse for the intro.
ARC Boats hopes to make a big splash with its fully electric boats. Edward Ludlow got to test out its new "Arc Sport" in the San Francisco Bay. Here's how it went👇 https://trib.al/yhNgstb

Cyclones cause patchy damage to corals and coral reefs. This damage occurs at multiple spatial scales, from a few metres within a reefscape, to a few hundred meters within a bay, to tens of kilometers between whole reefs or islands. On January 25th 2024, category 2 Cyclone Kirrily passed over the top of Yunbenun, Magnetic Island, in the central Great Barrier Reef, with sustained winds of 45-65 knots for several hours. The associated waves caused considerable patchy damage to the corals and the reef matrix itself at most sites around the island. This short video sequence of the same free-dive line through Gowrie Cove filmed before and after the cyclone provides a great example of how patchy the small-scale damage can be. Some corals have survived with only some branches snapped off, while just nearby, whole coral colonies and sections of the reef matrix itself have been scoured away by heavy wave action. While all bays around the island showed plenty of evidence of physical damage to corals and scouring of the seafloor by wave action, there are plenty of corals that remained alive, and these will kick start the process of reef recovery. Cyclones are very much part of the natural dynamic processes on the Great Barrier Reef, and the corals have evolved over millions of years with these acute disturbance events. However, the return time for cyclones is about 10-15 years, so we don't get many chances to study them, and we now have a very important window of time to collect information about the winners and losers in these sorts of severe, infrequent impact events. The evolution of lifeboats has greatly improved since the tragic incident of the Titanic's collision with an iceberg four days into her maiden journey, sailing from Southampton in England to New York in the United States of America on April 14, 1912. One of the findings was that there were insufficient lifeboats to accommodate the 2220 passengers, as well as the design of the lifeboat. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) responded by convening the 1914 International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS). This groundbreaking agreement set the groundwork for modern maritime safety, including the design, construction, and capacity of lifeboats https://lnkd.in/d63x7Hvg

This is a story about the world's oldest Park Ranger that serviced in San Francisco bay area, if not mistaken. She now tells a story about what life was like, as the first black family to move to Walnut Creek. The only part about this story that is concerning to me, is that she declares she could have done what she did without a man. There may be many women that feel this way. I have many friends that have said this too. My younger self may have thought this too. With age, comes wisdom to think differently on this. Men are equally valuable people in humanity. Every time a woman says she can do things without a man, I'm almost certain in 90% of the time, they do not truly mean it. I had a friend say she did not need a man after 2 divorces, and she said never again. Not 2 years later, is she dating, then she re-marry's a 3rd time. He's a Contractor, and they 'build" things together in the garage, and its very fulfilling to her. She can't stop talking about how great he is/they are. The Community Building concept actually applies here. Life is about "BUILDING". When 2 people in love get together, they usually start "building" at something: First, at building a new marriage, and life. Its starts with buying or "building" a home. You build up that home, you build your yards, gardens, sheds, mancaves Then, you build a family. You have 1 - X number of children. You build in your spiritual lives, and in your church communities. Ultimately, you may start building in your Citywide communities. When you stop building together, is when the spouse strays, divorce starts to set in, children start to tear away from you, your family abandons you, or your community abandons you. Then, life starts to fractile. You don't care about too much anymore, and you start to feel depressed. You feel isolated, split within yourself, and you sometimes don't know what you want, you can loose a sense of purpose, or what to do with yourselves. Some people feel more stressed, depression, anxiety and get diseased At least one of these has happened to me before. I have to fight hard with my mind. I need to say something to men, from the heart, as we start to build up women. Men and women building together, throughout life, are vitally important. Its a systemic issue that is the problem, not the men. I believe what women really feel, is that they wish they can better reach and connect with men, to keep the "building" going and better support women, to hold onto a connection. I'm not a feminist. I realized under pandemic, that we all need help. Its been evidenced by the brave men that shared their vulnerabilities in this social media community. From the men that have started to share more, I have learned a lot. I think its great that we're carefully trying to fine tune into each other, while trying to grow together. Thank you and in appreciation to the men that have demonstrated their support. Please continue to share and support women. Respectfully, D

Women's History Month Day 14 and I look with admiration to Betty Reid Soskin - a woman who seems to have tried it all, and at 101, is still looking forward to what the future holds. Betty's words, "The questions are the important things. Each time they get asked there's a different meaning," resonate deeply as I reflect on her journey and in turn, my own. Questions hold immense power and act as catalysts for transformation. They provoke thought, ignite curiosity, and drive change. Have we considered the questions we are asking ourselves and others? Are we asking the tough questions that challenge the status quo? Are we fostering dialogue that sparks innovation and inclusivity? Are we listening actively and empathetically to the questions posed by those around us? As we navigate our professional and personal journeys, let's remember that questions are not just inquiries; they're pathways to growth and understanding. They can pave the way for meaningful connections, unearth solutions to complex problems, and inspire us to reach for new heights. I encourage you to embrace the power of questions. Use them to amplify voices, bridge divides, and create a brighter, more equitable future for all. What questions are you asking today? #empoweredwomenempowerwomen #womenshistorymonth #sparkchange
