In our final video on The American Institute of Architects (AIA)’s 2030 Commitment, Associate Kit Elsworth shares how a current KieranTimberlake project utilizes strategies we previously explored in this series: 🌿 focusing on carbon intensity over energy use 🌿 overcoming the energy efficiency plateau 🌿 opportunities and limitations of renewables Targeting LEED Platinum, the central pavilion at the new Penn's Landing Park is projected to be Philadelphia’s first mass timber and zero carbon structure for public use. Designed in collaboration with Hargreaves Jones Landscape Architecture, the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation, and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), the new Penn’s Landing Park broke ground in September 2023. As 2030 approaches, let’s continue to support each other, work together, and share lessons learned.

Managing Director & Co-Founder, Ackroyd Lowrie | Award-winning Architects delivering imaginative and sustainable urban developments with real value | BBC, Forbes, Qandor, The Telegraph
80% of the buildings we need for the future are already built. There’s a misconception that as Architects we need to rebuild from scratch, but that is certainly not the case. For me, the richest projects are those where we take existing buildings and re-imagine them for future generations, adding to the layers of history and meaning within the city. Materials library: MarksBarfield Architects! Julia Barfield, Ian Crockford and Thomas Henderson Schwartz discuss how the #ClimateEmergency is reshaping the practice’s approach to design, construction and materiality. "We’ve been ‘on a journey’, as they say, and this has included introducing a strategy for change (based on the original Architects Declare strategy for change), where the practice has stated its environmental aims and then outlined the various stages/operations needed to achieve them," says Julia Barfield. "Our principal objective is to become a regenerative practice aligned to the planetary emergency, and where everything it does is set within planetary limits. This includes becoming climate literate and increasing our Passivhaus design capability." Read the full feature interview in the link below! ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/eqMemee7

A case of ruining architecture to achieve climate comfort in a post by Stefan Bürger. See Post Link Below: https://lnkd.in/dJW8Uhzq In the pursuant of climate comfort we cannot ruin historic architecture without responsible consideration to environmental impact and historic preservation. There is already a smarter choice in existance which provides a sustainable solution in implimenting energy-efficiency for historic architecture. In the case of the Görlitz Distric Office, this 300 micron reflective membrane - ClimateCoating with endothermic and dehuminification propertise would have effectively improved the climate condition without tampering with the historic architecture. "Our energy efficiency resolve should not sacrifice responsibility." Winfred Quartey - 2024 #sustainability #energyefficiency #ecofriendly #climatecoating

How can we actively shape a more resilient land use in planning, architecture and construction in the direction of sustainable practices and conduct? The ground we stand on is all we have. Throughout history, it has provided us with everything, as the foundation of civilization. In our latest article, we try to lay an ear to the ground, listening to the knowledge that grows from the soil that feeds us. Cultivable soil is a scarce resource, at the intersecting point of many interests. Through interviews with 5 experts in and around the building sector this article will focus on the underrepresented voice of our land use in architecture and planning in the Nordic context. “If we do not act now, I think we will have a much harder time to transform. We need to get our politicians to understand that either we engage in incremental adaptation, or we will have to deal with a transitional chock in the future.” – Anders Larsson, researcher and teacher at the Department of Landscape Architecture, Planning and Management, SLU Alnarp This article is part of the Nordic Sustainable Construction program, an initiative by the The Nordic Council of Ministers and The Nordic Council and Nordic Innovation. Our goal? To lead the Nordic region towards sustainable and competitive construction while minimizing environmental impacts.
