A survey conducted by the Taisho University Regional Policy Research Institute on residents of 59 municipalities across 17 prefectures, known for having a high proportion of foreign residents compared to other regions, revealed on the 10th that over 80% of respondents do not have regular interactions with foreigners. Additionally, more than half of the respondents do not wish for an increase in the foreign population. As the acceptance of foreign workers becomes a social issue, there is an urgent need for measures to facilitate coexistence. 83.8% of respondents reported having "no association" with foreigners living in their area, while 16.2% said they did have interactions. Among those who did have interactions, "working at the same workplace" was the most common at 39.7%, followed by "neighborhood relations" and "friendship."
