Elevate Collegiate Charter School in Houston, TX needed additional classrooms to house its enrollment. The obvious answer was to install portable classrooms on the large yard. The less obvious solution was to build a mezzanine in what was formerly attic space by building a structure within a structure. The 2nd challenge was providing accessibility to said mezzanine. The obvious solution was to install an elevator. The less obvious was to build a lift. Here are both creative solutions in place saving time, money, and without compromise. Texas Charter School Development (TCSD) is thrilled to be partnering with Elevate Collegiate Charter School in Houston, TX. We focus on finding innovative solutions to address the unique challenges faced by our charter school partners. Our collaboration with Elevate Collegiate exemplifies this commitment. Faced with the need for additional classrooms, we embarked on a thorough exploration of options alongside Elevate's dedicated team. Together, we identified the opportunity to repurpose previously unused attic space into a functional mezzanine, effectively optimizing available resources and space. Recognizing the importance of accessibility, we sought a solution that would ensure inclusivity for all students. The decision to implement a lift, rather than a traditional elevator, underscored our joint focus on efficiency and practicality. This project underscores our collective dedication to educational excellence and equitable access. It stands as a testament to the power of collaboration and innovative problem-solving in achieving shared goals. #TCSD #PartnershipSuccess #InnovativeSolutions #EducationalExcellence #InclusiveSpaces

We closed last week with great news regarding a bus route, let's keep that trend up! Have you heard about the great performance improvements that Glenwood Springs Elementary has lead? The most-improved school, primarily based on student growth year over year, was GSES, which jumped two levels from being on a “Turnaround” plan with the state last year to an “Improvement” plan this year. Big kudos to Jessica Schwarz, their Principal and the entire GSES team. Here is the full article as published on the Post Independent. https://lnkd.in/gH-tcky5

Head of Packwood, Shropshire (part of the Shrewsbury Family of Schools). FCCT FRSA . Fellow of the Institute of Boarding. Mental Health First Aid Instructor and L7 Executive Coach. Advocate for Character Education.
"There is a real advantage gained being a leader in a school, being at the top of your Prep School and also being in a place that has a rich co-curricular programme..." It was great to welcome Phil Mann from Wellington College on Friday to speak to our parents about the broader senior school admissions process and the benefits of a Year 9 entry. We feel very strongly about the benefits of Years 7 and 8 in a Prep School at St George's School Windsor Castle, which is why, under Henry Knight's incredible leadership (with two headships underpinning his experience), our Senior Prep Faculty has been a real focus for us. Not least because the young children in our schools need to develop a very specific set of skills to adapt to disruptive workplaces and a consistency of global change when they leave school in the next 15 years. A large piece of work by the World Economic Forum, 'Future of Jobs Report 2023' sets out the skills needed. 83 international companies from 45 economies contributed to this report. In a world where the only consistency is change, the following skills are seen as the most important: Analytical thinking Creative thinking Resilience Flexibility and agility Empathy Social influence Active listening My combining our High Performance Learning Advanced Cognitive Attributes and values, attitudes and attributes, with our Pre-Senior Baccalaureate assessment framework, alongside the philosophy of the International Baccalaureate, our Years 7 and 8 programme empowers students to think deeply about these skills. There is evidence that very young children are starting to hit key developmental milestones later. If this is the case, and they 'grow up' (or think they do) much younger a few years later, then there is a precious window to develop these skills within a nurturing setting where mistakes can be made and true growth and confidence realised. Amidst the complexity of educating for the future, IAPS schools are well placed to nurture these 'real world ready; skills, and this includes Years 7 and 8 - where our students not only think deeply, but begin to test them out as young leaders.
Thank you to Phil Mann, Director of Admissions at Wellington College, for joining us this morning to provide such a comprehensive overview of the application and selection process at Wellington. A destination for a third of our Year 8 students in 2023. Thank you also to Henry Knight, our Head of Senior Prep and Student Performance, for providing an overview of our excellent Senior Prep faculty - the ideal preparation for senior schools such as Wellington, and beyond. As Phil said, "There is real advantage in being a leader in a school, being at the top of the school and also to being in a place which has a rich co-curricular programme … our St George’s students are definitely not shy of getting up early and getting stuck into everything on offer at Wellington.” To find out more, please visit: https://lnkd.in/eT5Xq7Hj #RealWorldReady #prepschool #seniorschool #wellingtoncollege #stgeorges #stgwindsor

I remember the first time, years ago, that I heard “we need to empower and engage the frontline”. It struck me as odd. “But I know my colleagues”, I thought, “they ARE engaged outside of work, they are creative and joyful…outside of work, they are collaborative and passionate…outside of work.” ✨ Maybe it’s not an employee problem, maybe it’s a work environment one! ✨ ➡️ What if we didn’t have to “empower and engage the frontline” because we never stripped students of their power, curiosity, and autonomy in conventional school systems? Leaders would no longer need to “make it safe to ask questions” because we never learned that it was unsafe… Leaders would quit relying heavily on extrinsic motivation and carrot/stick approaches because we didn’t learn to chase a “gold star” over our own creative passions… Leaders would feel safe admitting they ‘don’t know’ because they never learned their worth was directly tied to school grades… What if? Yes, I work with CEOs to redefine business success by challenging their own preconceptions. But where do you think many of those preconceptions originated? *** Respect humanity (including children!). Improve work. Continuous Improvement without the Other CI, Consciousness Improvement, is unsustainable (and unfulfilling and outdated and expensive and frustrating and…) Let's experiment together: www.theotherci.com *** #theotherci #continuousimprovement #consciousness #executive #leadership #ceo #executivecoaching #sudbury #education #consciousleadership #tps #lean #manufacturingexcellence #respectforpeople #futureofwork #change #management #respecthumanity #improvework
At Saint Louis Sudbury School, students are free to ask questions, learn from, and hang out with students and staff of all ages. Sudbury model school graduates often comment about how they are comfortable talking with their professors, supervisors, and co-workers of different ages. When have you worked with a team who were all the same age? This is a great behind the scenes moment of a younger student asking for help about possibly changing a school rule. He wanted to know about the wording of the current rule, how to make a motion in School Meeting to change it, and help writing the item on the School Meeting agenda. Are you interested in exploring Self-Directed Education in a democratic learning community for your child? Want to see your child reignite their love for learning? Provide them with an opportunity of time and space to discover themselves and prioritize their well-being? Schedule a tour of Saint Louis Sudbury School this spring, consider a Visiting Week in the spring or summer, and enroll in the fall! https://lnkd.in/gfpwApCX (Note: a few spots remain for this current School Year.)
