For a continent (Africa) where we are playing catchup, where we need power to be able to connect the 600M+ people without access to electricity, and to create jobs for our fast growing youth, it is paramount that an energy mix which includes gas to power is fully supported by funders. We need action! Glad to see Patrick Pouyanné of TotalEnergies hitting the nail on the head.

Airlink is a gem of an airline on the continent. Efficient Ap which makes booking and tracking flights easy. Check in process and staff very efficient. Boarding on time. Keeps alerting passengers of any changes. And on flight, good service with minimum staff. And landing very much on time or even ahead of time. This is a great investment by our Group as we look beyond short term returns and invest in what will become the norm in the future. Recently, Highview Power secured £300 million from the UK Infrastructure Bank, Centrica, and other investors, marking a significant milestone in developing the UK's first commercial-scale liquid air energy storage (LAES) plant. This investment in the U.K is a catalyst of an African Group looking beyond its shores. AEF DAY 3: There have been several light bulb moments for me today and yesterday evening as we enjoyed the debates we are having during AEF breakouts. 🌍 This poignant image captures the essence of the dark continent, given this is the African Energy Forum, we must discuss Africa's urgent need for increased access to affordable electricity and power. Africa has nearly 20% of the world's population but generates just 2% of the world's electricity The ‘’just transition’’ should be defined by how many people have access to energy sources on our continent, rather than by the amount and types of energy available for export to Europe and beyond. For western economies, the #justtransition and the #energydebate revolve around future #energysecurity, not immediate access to energy. The conversations volley between urgent energy access for industry, livelihoods, and progress in Africa versus long-term energy security for Western countries that haven't faced energy shortages in two lifetimes. Both needs must be addressed. Let’s change up the conversation. We should be discussing #energyequity for Africans alongside #energysecurity for developed countries. For the next generation of African youth, the largest demographic in the world, progress, education, and community survival require access to energy. Investments in African projects should be approached as we have done in finance with other commodities. We should seek #FairTrade agreements for the progress of the people of Africa. Had the opportunity to moderate the panel with the theme of Resorts and coastal opportunities in Indian Ocean island and East Africa. My takeaways from the panellists: 1/ we are seeing positive traction in terms of sustainable tourism development plans for exotic islands such as Zanzibar, Pemba, Comoros, Madagascar. These islands are taking lessons learnt from Maldives, Seychelles, Mauritius. 2/ the luxury market is where the growth is and this segment hasn’t been impacted by covid. A segment that’s doing very well. 3/ bush beach packages of greater interest as tourists move away from 7 night stay to 14 to 20 night stays. Amortising the cost of flight on longer stays. Hence the value of what east Africa and Indian Ocean islands have to offer as combo packages. 4/ international brands are clearly scouting for opportunities. Competition is hotting up.
