Can you tell us a bit about what you do?   Ben: "I check and maintain the integrity and wetness of cardboard on the factory line. I have to self-manage my time and allocate enough to ensure the checks are completed to the highest company standard and are a proud product that the company would put forward to clients."   2. What does this job mean to you?   Ben: "It means I can safely go to work and learn new skills while creating lasting friendships in the workforce. After 12 years of being a chef, I get to have weekends and nights off to spend with my family, which means more than the world to me.”   3. What is your favourite thing about your job?   Ben: "My favorite thing is that I can learn new skills and move up in the workplace chain. Sometimes you never know what the impact of going to new surroundings and getting a cup of coffee can do. I was just starting in marketing. This was quite a shift for me as my working career had been all in finance. And here I was in a new function, where it is all about connection and relationships. How fortunate I was that I had the opportunity to learn working with Nicholle Eno DeLorez.  Nicholle decided to take our small team out of the office to connect over a coffee.  We went to one of those laid-back coffee shops that had a vibe and a feel that it might have also been someone’s house. And as we settled in, our formality started to move away as we moved closer together. While we were talking about our plan and our work, I was really learning about the power of connection and inclusive leadership within a team. There is such an impact that you can create by moving outside of your normal spaces, to being in a place where there is nothing else that matters besides each other, where the space feels safe and distractions are less prevalent. I am grateful for learning so much from Nicholle in that first marketing role, and nothing more important than how special it is when you can connect people together. At most jobs, you begin to prepare for Back To School season in July 👩🏾🏫. At Southwest Airlines, we begin to prepare for Halloween season in July 🎃. HalloWN is huge at the LUV airline 💙❤️💛 – and we don’t just dress up and decorate our desk with a pumpkin – our Headquarters is transformed into a huge trunk or treat – filled with skits, games, and exploring every department decorated area. No idea goes unseen, as everyone’s imaginations comes to life 🪄. 💡 Last week, even though we are 4 months away our department announced our HalloWN theme in a huge way. Rather than announcing it in a simple email, our Senior Leaders got involved to be apart of a short skit to announce of theme. That is the beauty of our Southwest Culture, everyone gets involved to be apart of the fun – and I LUV that we have leaders that not only advocate for our culture, but enjoy being a part of our Culture 🥳. Both Spencer & I have had the honor of overseeing our Culture events the last two years for both of our departments (People & TL&D) , and this year we are excited to be able to pass the paton and to simply show support for our Culture advocates. I am so excited to see what our amazing Halloween committee will create in the coming weeks as we create a trunk or treat, digital short, and a skit. While we work hard – with all the meetings, interviews, and deadlines – we always take time to have a little fun – and this is just one of the many things that keeps our Southwest Culture alive 💙❤️💛. 💯 Our culture is often intimidated, but never duplicated – and it is the #1 reason why you always see our People smiling. ✅️ Want to be apart of our fun-LUVing culture?
