Aircraft de-icing is a crucial process to ensure safe flight in wintry conditions. Typically, a heated mixture of glycol and water is sprayed onto an aircraft's surfaces, such as wings and tail, before departure. This fluid, often referred to as de-icing fluid, creates a thin film that melts and removes accumulated ice or snow. By preventing the formation of ice on critical areas, such as wing surfaces, the de-icing process safeguards the aircraft's aerodynamic performance. Pilots coordinate de-icing procedures with ground crews to guarantee a clean and ice-free exterior, mitigating the risk of ice-related complications during takeoff and flight.
