"You will actually be there to work on our #schoolsecurity and emergency preparedness assessment?," I'm often asked by #schoolleaders. The answer: Absolutely - every single #schoolsafety consulting project. You won't find me sitting home behind a desk sending out less qualified people to do the work. You'll find me in schools! Why? Because I understand #schoolclimate, culture, and school community relations. I know that schools are unique and different contexts from other security professional settings. And this is how I continue to learn, grow, and connect with #principals, #teachers, #SROs, security staff, support staff, #parents, #students, #superintendents, #schoolboard members, #schoolpr, and others in the school community. In the past two weeks: Our Senior Consultant, Chuck Hibbert, and I visited 18 school sites and spent one full day interviewing central office school leaders and first responders. Very dedicated, caring educational professionals with a solid foundation in school security and emergency preparedness. If you don't understand school climate, culture, community relations, and PreK-12 school contexts, you don't understand school safety.
Dr. Ken, leadership at its best seting the tone and tenor of the positive relationships to come. Understanding precedes the learning of the school climate and its climate, culture and community relations. One cannot conduct high level consulting projects without influence.
Understanding the climate, providing solutions and offering resources to provide the necessary levels to safeguard the well being in educational institutions are critical. When the consultants assess for the best, results happen. Asking the questions that never gets to the answers are necessary. Thank you for sharing this Dr. Ken

9moThis is so refreshing to hear Doc. I agree 100%. If clients are engaging with you based on your knowledge and experience you need to have boots on the ground to understand the unique climate, culture, and nuances to provide realistic actionable recommendations. Otherwise, assessments become boilerplate checklists with little real value.
