The HBdV Fellows introduce themselves. We start with Merle-Sophie Thielmann from the Universität Mannheim. At the #7ECSLHE, I present a seminar concept introducing pre-service teachers to diversity-oriented school improvement processes. Students gained insight into the implementation of these processes during visits to cooperating schools and reflected on their future roles in shaping the schools they will work at. The presentation of the seminar concept is supplemented by qualitative analyses of students' written reflections and group discussions on the potential benefits of service learning in a) addressing the challenges faced by schools in socially disadvantaged areas and b) preparing pre-service teachers for teaching at and shaping schools in increasingly diverse environments.

So awesome! By the time of our 30th anniversary next May we should pass the 60 milestone - that is 60 people with intellectual disabilities or autistic persons supported by LiveWorkPlay to move to a home of their own in the community. In some cases this is their first home outside of their family home, in other cases it is deinstitutionalization, supporting the person to leave a group living facility or other institutional setting. There is a lot more variety of that than people might expect, everything from hospital psychiatric wards, to the prison system, to domiciliary hostels, to long-term care facilities. Imagine leaving any of those environments and getting your own key to your own door. It is actually hard to imagine without some direct experience in those environments.
