In honor of National Basketball Association (NBA) All star weekend:
When people ask who was the greatest basketball player of all time,
they usually talk about championship rings,
Lebron with 4?
is it Kobe with 5?
maybe MJ with 6?
In our jobs, most of us are not the main person in the organization.
Most of us don't do the main thing the company does.
In Basketball terms, most of us are role players.
But role players do make a lot of difference, when they know their role, and play it to perfection.
My favorite role player of all time is Robert Horry, or by his nickname "Big Shot Rob".
He earned that nickname by making a lot of big shots, as a role player.
Somehow, he was always in the right place at the right time, and made the right shot.
That is the same in our work lives, we need to identify the right moments where we can have an impact, and take the right shot.
In our respective teams, most of us can't be Lebron or Kobe or MJ.
But we can be Robert Horry.
Oh, and by the way, Robert Horry has 7 championship rings, one more than Michael Jordan.
Here is a great video about how Robert Horry did it:
