Did you know only 29% of nonprofits have a written succession plan or policy to guide an executive transition. (Board Source Leading With Intent 2021). Sustained mission delivery requires leadership continuity at all levels - Board, Executive, and Senior Leadership. Creating a plan now can help you manage risk and prevent a crisis. Having been part of transitions as a board member and senior leader, I've seen how those that were planned, although still challenging and emotional, went much more smoothly. How is your organization preparing for leadership transitions?

Interesting report: The world is now more ‘complex and unpredictable’ and not the ‘complicated and predictable’ world that many leaders and organisations developed within and for. It is natural, therefore, for leaders to want to focus on things they can control. It is also natural for this to play out at all levels of an organisation, and an unidented consequence is that individuals focus on personal objectives that are not aligned. Naturally, leaders want their associates and employees to work as a team. In this study, one CEO said their most important job was to “create a culture where leadership and teams at all levels are truly committed to the collective ‘us’ and not the individual ‘me’ to be able to make quick decisions.” Within organisations, it is easy for subsystems to exist. It is analogous with a footballer being happier losing a game 4-3 when he/she scores three goals versus not scoring but winning 1-0. Human nature wants us to take control of our own success. It takes greater courage as a team to work together, listen to insights from all levels of the organisation (as often ohers are closer to the grounded reality), stack the cards in your favour for success, make the right plays, hold hands and adapt as you go. We are seeing that in the Euros right now. It is tough to be a leader in the 21st century if you adopt 20th century tactics.
There is no shortage of issues confronting CEOs and directors — even the most capable CEOs require new levels of sophistication from their top leadership team and board. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eSRqMM9J
