Yesterday I contributed to the future debate on Public Platforms in the Statenzaal of the Province of South Holland, organized by FUTUR the Young Civil Servants Network of the Netherlands. From different thematic perspectives, a number of stimulating statements were debated between experts, young professionals, employees of the Province of South Holland and external relations of the province. The aim was to gain more insight and understanding about various points of view. After an introductory presentation, I made the statement 'In 2035, private collective platforms will be leading, the role of the government will be minimal'. This statement was fueled by our trend report 'The future of government service concepts'. https://lnkd.in/eFA3hCMc . The end result has been eight growth directions that together indicate the path to feasible, desirable and future-proof government services.

🎤🎓 Today I had the pleasure to be back at my former University in Bruges as I gave a guest lecture at the College of Europe on the ESM and its role in the architecture of Economic and Monetary Union. Here are some key takeaways from the lecture: 🚨The institutional framework of Economic and Monetary Union has evolved through crises, which highlighted the need for more integration. ➡️ The ESM was born out of a crisis and has a clear crisis management purpose, though the focus is now shifting towards crisis prevention. 🔄 The ESM was set up as an intergovernmental institution outside the EU treaties for legal and political reasons. Nonetheless, it is deeply embedded in the framework of Economic and Monetary Union: the two-way feedback loop between the ESM and Banking Union is evidence of that. 📚 From an academic perspective, both theories of European integration (i.e. liberal intergovernmentalism and neofunctionalism) are useful to account for the creation and evolution of the ESM. 🇪🇺 Looking forward, the discussion on the future of the ESM should be part of the broader debate on a more integrated and efficient EU framework.
