FAA Makes History in Dallas The Federal Aviation Administration has taken a significant step in U.S. aviation by authorizing multiple operators, including Zipline and Wing to fly commercial drones without visual observers in shared airspace. This marks the beginning of routine Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) flights, leveraging Unmanned Aircraft System Traffic Management (UTM) technology to ensure safety. With these advancements, operators can now manage drone flights collaboratively in airspace below 400 feet, avoiding crewed aircraft. Hopefully we will see the gap widen between traditional aviation legislation and sUAS. The lines have been blurred for years as the current doctrine is still quite obviously a cut and paste job with a few tweaks here and there. As with most things there probably isn't a perfect enduring solution, so seeing the CAA evolve this domain is encouraging to say the least.

The initiative aims to enhance the inspection and monitoring of transmission lines, generation facilities, and canal systems, improving the efficiency and safety of these operations.
