What a beautiful video! Captures the essence of 'Savile Row' tailoring, especially if you're interested in Bespoke Suits and the lives of clothiers! Been researching a whole lot of the Bespoke Clothing industry, for a new client, who's also a Savile Row trained Bespoke Clothier, in the US, crafting custom garments for his discerning clients! I wasn't so much of a formal wear or suiting aficionado, or connoisseur as much, let alone bespoke clothing, but I think I'm turning into one now! :) In fact, every TV show I watch or re-watch now, (Suits, Mad Men, Boardwalk Empire, Ballers) I keep an eye on the clothes, and decipher the types of suits! ;-) #bespokefashion #suits #customtailoring

A fascinating illustration how we lost our superfine majestic Muslin fabric heritage and it's revival efforts.... Muslin's delicate nature and lightweight quality made it a marvel. For centuries, Bangladeshi artisans perfected techniques to create this delicate fabric. The specific 'kapas' cotton used and its treatment likely played a crucial role in achieving Muslin's pristine properties. Likely Kapasia, a region in #Bangladesh, was named after unique 'kapas-cotton.' I saw superfine #Muslin #fabric in the British Museum, sparking my curiosity. We wonder whether British Museum has any revival program to revive this delicate ancient fabric tapestry. Many things went wrong during our colonial era. Deliberately, we destroyed our amazing ancient artisans and craftmanships. My friend's mother, Hosne ara Alam wrote a book in Bengali about this ancient fabric: 'Lal Kapaser Kanna' (Red Cotton's Cry), published by Meera Prakshan, Dhaka Bangladesh Book Fair 2004. ISBN 984-775-068-8. Sadly, the colonial era negatively impacted Muslin production. My friend's mother's book, "Lal Kapaser Kanna," sheds light on this. It effectively captures the essence of Muslin's delicate beauty and the intricate craftsmanship behind it. The book, 'Lal Kapaser Kanna,' seems like a valuable resource for understanding this period. The details about cotton preservation and #spinning techniques are particularly interesting. Imagine, in the 18th century, Muslin manufacturers used to preserve cotton in a large clay pot with special 'chitala chitala' knifefish scales to mainain moisture and lusture of cotton. Imagine 16-years-old girls used to spin cotton fibers on the surface of water with their soft fingers. They knew cotton absorbs moisture and gets stronger during spinning process. I purchased a few ancient Muslin fabric replicas from a renowned craft shop, Aarrong, Dhaka, Bangladesh before resuming my doctoral #research at the University of Leeds, UK. Muslin's delicate beauty and the skill behind its creation are truly awe-inspiring. It's a significant part of Bangladeshi cultural heritage. I'm delighted to share these superfine fabric replicas with my friends. Thank you, Ahmed Zaidi, PhD, for your lovely #story about our complex #history. We weave our global social fabric with empathy. Muslin's story reminds us of the importance of appreciating cultural heritage and supporting traditional crafts. Did you know the real reason bendind producing this amazing ancient fabric tapestry? 🕸️(*-*)🕸️ Amazing Superfine Fabric from our Beautiful Bangladesh. 🇧🇩🌷🇧🇩 #VisionCreatesValue #Passion #Innovation #Textile
The story of the lost ancient fabric. Two centuries ago this ancient fabric was 26x more expensive than silk. It was worn by the Mughal Emperors, Marie Antoinette, the Romans and even Jane Austen wrote about it. However, for the last 200 years, no one has been able to make this fabric. #documentary #history #fashion

Let's explore the fascinating stories from our collective past. I hope to offer a fun and thought-provoking perspective on history.
Lipstick, a cosmetic product used to enhance the appearance of the lips, has a fascinating history that spans thousands of years. The origins of lipstick can be traced back to ancient civilizations, where both men and women used various substances to color their lips. In ancient Mesopotamia, for example, people crushed gemstones and applied the powder to their lips. Ancient Egyptians also had a fondness for lip color and used a mixture of red ochre, iodine, and henna to achieve a vibrant hue. Throughout history, lipstick has held different meanings and purposes, ranging from religious and cultural significance to social status and fashion trends. It has seen bans, controversies, and even associations with witchcraft. Today, lipstick has become a staple in the beauty industry, offering a wide range of colors, finishes, and formulations to suit individual preferences. Its evolution over time reflects the ever-changing ideals of beauty and self-expression. For more info read our article https://lnkd.in/ePNVY8aP
