Im excited to be a part of this amazing event. Leading into the Annual Step Challenge to raise awareness and much needed funds for Pancreatic Cancer. Pancreatic cancer is the eighth most diagnosed cancer in Australia. It is estimated that just under 5,000 people will receive a pancreatic cancer diagnosis, every year. This would account for 2.8% of all cancer diagnoses in the country, yet by 2030 it is expected pancreatic cancer will be Australia’s second biggest cancer killer. The five-year survival rate of pancreatic cancer is barely above 10%, so it is clear that this disease requires focused investment and research. https://lnkd.in/g9hinE3p

For many families impacted by prostate cancer, Christmas takes courage. Many will be feeling the loss of a loved one while others will be holding on to each day, hoping that it's special. That's why all donations to PCFA this Christmas will be devoted to The ALLURe Project, a ground-breaking research investment to help win the fight against prostate cancer. The project will establish the nation's first biorepository for metastatic prostate cancer, incorporating new experimental models developed by Australian scientists to become a living lab against disease. Every 20 minutes another Australian man will be diagnosed with prostate cancer - including men like Bruce, who was diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer in January this year and immediately underwent six rounds of chemo to try and stop the disease from spreading. By unlocking new diagnostic tools, precision medicines and therapies, The ALLURe Project will give men with advanced forms of prostate cancer a greater hope for survival. Find out more about this game-changing project at https://lnkd.in/ga5raezj

Over 20,000 people in Australia this year will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Thats 57 people per day! 1 in 7 women. 1 in 500 men. In 2023, over 3,200 Australian passed away from breast cancer (including 30-40 males). Approximately one woman under the age of 40 is expected to die each week from breast cancer. That’s 9 Australians a day dying from the disease. In the last 10 years, breast cancer diagnosis have increased by 21%. Since the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) started funding in 1994, the death rates from breast cancer in Australia have reduced by over 40% thanks in large part to research in prevention, early detection and new and improved breast cancer treatments. I recently completed a fundraiser with the National Breast Cancer Foundation and proudly raised $4,561. EARLY DETECTION SAVES LIVES!

Today is World Cancer Research Day. Colorectal cancer is the 2nd leading cause of cancer deaths overall, yet research into the disease is less funded than other less-deadly cancers. Together, we can change this. Project Cure CRC, the Alliance’s new research fund, has received over 100 proposals. With $3.5 million awarded this year, your donation could further the project’s potential for breakthroughs in colorectal cancer. Rapid advances in science and research are crucial in developing better treatments to help today’s patients who have run out of other options. You can drive progress in science and research through your gift to the Alliance today. Your donation this World Cancer Research Day will also make a real difference by supporting CRC patients through access to: 👉 Education and advocacy around biomarker testing to improve treatment options 👉 A colorectal cancer clinical trial search tool on our website 👉 Patient and family navigators who help patients understand and move forward with a treatment plan best for them. By funding these essential programs, you are ensuring that strides to prevent and treat colorectal cancer continue to be made. Thank you for coming together with other donors to help reach a $100,000 fundraising goal by September 30 to fund these critical programs. Please consider a donation — your gift will provide hope and help save lives. Thank you for your generosity in honor of World Cancer Research Day. Dr Tai has made it her goal to find ways to treat metastatic cancer in the same way that primary cancers can be treated. With support from CCS, along with her team, Dr Tai is developing a treatment to target triple-negative breast cancer. If Dr Tai and her team are successful with their research, this can provide a much-needed treatment option for people with what has been considered one of the most difficult breast cancers to treat. With support from CCS and donors, Dr Tai can move forward in her research and help people live longer and fuller lives. “Funding allows me to be a scientist. It allows me to ask research questions, design and execute studies to address these questions, hire students and research staff, mentor them, conduct collaborative research, publish our research, patent our inventions, raise more funds, and most importantly, initiate clinical trials to help as many cancer patients as possible,” says Dr Tai. Nothing big gets solved by one person. To take on cancer, it takes every one of us. It takes a society. 💛 Read more on Dr Tai’s research: https://lnkd.in/eukksEGd

Yesterday was World Cancer Day, a global initiative focused on closing the care gap. Cancer is the number one public health challenge facing all of us, but when we work together, we can be a part of the solution. Take for example that the standard of care for prostate cancer patients used to be five to upwards of eight weeks of daily radiation. Now, thanks to donor-funded clinical trials at BC Cancer – Victoria, some patients can now receive just five doses of a high-precision radiation – a reduction of up to 85 per cent in treatment sessions. And this is just one example of how donors are helping fuel solutions that have wide-ranging impact on B.C.’s cancer care system. BC Cancer – Vancouver’s Department Head of Radiation Oncology, Dr. Paris Ingledew and I explore these solutions in our editorial piece, which I am proud to see published in the Vancouver Sun. Philanthropy offers a chance for all of us to contribute meaningfully toward a more efficient cancer care system. With donor support, the BC Cancer Foundation can bring life-saving cancer care closer to home for every British Columbian. https://bit.ly/3SMTsGM

This is great news but at least a decade overdue, or put it another way 120,000 lives plus at least another 60000 men with late diagnosis. A significant element of the issue is the stubborn, intransigents of the medical professionals to accept that there was another way. PSA testing in the UK is flawed and has been for years, no organisation accepts a signal risk based result and builds a whole case around it?? As professional risk experts we know to build a case around a number of risk results, a sequence of answers, far more reliable that a single result on any one day, but that is how it works in the UK. All men from age 50 must start their PSA/Prostate journey, those high risk men, that is men of black origin and those that have a close family link to prostate, breast or cervical caners must start their PSA journey from age 45. A sequence of results tells a story, a single result is merely a moment in time. Transform is most welcome and all of us has contributed to the seed corn for the trials, the Government has handed over £16m. Therefore due to the lives lost and the time it has taken to get this far, this project should be very transparent, the data available for scrutiny and challenge. Tim a third generation survivor
"It's the biggest research investment we’ve ever made." Today, we're proud to announce further details of our £42million TRANSFORM screening trial. Backed by the NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research) and Movember, the trial will bring together six of the world's leading prostate cancer researchers and has the potential to reduce prostate cancer deaths by 40%. We will begin recruitment of hundreds of thousands of men from across the UK next year and we could see our first results in as little as three years. ➡️ Learn more: https://bit.ly/3xSHfYS #ProstateCancer l #MensHealth

Today is World Cancer Day. On it, my wife and I are taking action to recognize the many friends, family members, and colleagues who are currently fighting or who have fought cancer. Over the past year alone, we have had friends and family who were newly diagnosed or who have had recurrences. While some others have unfortunately lost their battles with cancer, we also know some survivors who are now in remission. Each person's journey was different, and the need for additional treatment options continues to be something we all hope for. People have often asked how they can help. Your help in the fight to advance research for rare cancers means a lot to us - especially after she was diagnosed with two forms of cancer nearly two years ago. We have seen first-hand — through many different views — the critical need for new research and more powerful treatment options. Just over a month from today, on Sunday, March 10, 2024, we will be leading Team Cousins Fight Cancer for the seventh straight year and riding alongside friends and family to raise money for Cycle for Survival — the movement to beat rare cancers. Since 2017, our team has raised nearly $170K 👀 in funding for rare cancer research — and this year, we will have five bikes and a goal of raising at least another $50K. This year, our team will have a large representation of her fellow cancer survivors. Each of them have their own stories and will be riding both in honor of those who are fighting and those who have fought, as well as in memory of some very special people in our lives. Together, our team will be riding in honor of more than 70 cancer survivors and their families. Please consider supporting our team and fundraising effort. Any amount counts and makes a difference (even $5!). 100% of every dollar you give advances rare cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, a global leader in cancer research, care, and education. In honor of World Cancer Day, online donations to Cycle for Survival between February 4-7, 2024 are being matched up to $700,000 total! 100% of every dollar you give will go directly to MSK. Please make a tax-deductible donation to our ride today, and you’ll double your impact on lifesaving rare cancer research that benefits people around the world. If you’d like to support us, here is a link to my fundraising page: https://lnkd.in/ggXCtAJz Thank you for your friendship and support in this important endeavor. #worldcancerday #cancerresearch #cancersucks #cancersurvivors
