Contributing to our #ZeroWaste mission: With our iconic hair care brand John Frieda, we have moved away from black plastic, supporting the recyclability of our packaging. “The majority of conventional black plastic packaging is coloured using carbon black pigments which do not enable the pack to be sorted using Near Infra-Red (NIR) technology widely used in plastics recycling”, says Nicola Baeuerle, Director Sustainability. “As a result, black plastic packaging commonly ends up as residue and is disposed of in landfill or incinerated. To support the recyclability of our packaging, we are continually looking to remove black plastic from our packaging and replace it with clear caps and closures.” #ZeroWasteWeek #PlasticReduction #Sustainability #MakingLifeBeautiful

“I USED TO BE PLASTIC BOTTLES” This sentence caught my attention while I was walking on the tube in the morning. Despite conveying a positive message about a product manufactured by recycling plastic bottles, it raises a crucial question regarding circularity and the circular economy: "What am I going to be next?" While stating the past (being plastic bottles) aligns with linear models, it gives a sense of loop, of circularity. However, upon closer examination, we can identify more linear processes linked together. The bottles originate from the predominantly linear processes of the water or soft drinks sector and then begin a new linear process in tote bags production. To encourage both a more circular mindset and better circular design, alongside the main principle "Start from the End," every product should provide both the easy and known answer (i.e plastic bottles) and the challenging, often unknown answer to "What am I going to be?" Discovering and declaring the answer to the latter question could significantly advance efforts towards genuine circularity, which requires confronting tough challenges rather than settling for easy solutions. #circularity #circulareconomy #materials #materiality

“Can we ever replace single-use plastic entirely?” The answer is not that simple, here’s what our CEO thinks - In a world striving for sustainability, the question of replacing single-use plastic looms large. But can we replace single-use plastic today? As per our CEO - While the world and Srinivas Papers are trying their best to get rid of single-use plastic, we are not quite there yet. We at Srinivas Papers are contributing to the fight for sustainable packaging with our products like- Paper cups, plates, trays, and bags. Yet, the truth is, that paper technology and coatings need significant upgrades to match plastic's durability. As innovations in sustainable packaging continue, we are confident that one day we might be able to replace single-use plastic. But the process will take its time and we will have to continue working towards it. Till then our focus must be on improving our recycling and waste management systems. P.S. Have you started looking for alternatives to plastic in everyday life? Let us know in the comments. #SrinivasPapers #Sustainability #Recycling #PlasticProblem

Overcoming Obstacles: BioNova Pack's Advances in Plastic Recycling 🌐 Plastic recycling faces numerous challenges ranging from technical issues to economic constraints. At BioNova Pack, we are committed not only to identifying these obstacles but also to developing innovative solutions that promote a more sustainable future. 🌍 Current Challenges in Plastic Recycling: Material Contamination: One of the biggest challenges is contamination in recyclable materials, which can compromise the quality of recycled plastic. Technical Limitations: The variability in plastic types makes processing and recycling difficult, as each type requires a different process. Economic Costs: Often, the cost of recycling can be higher than producing new plastic, discouraging investments in recycling technologies. Innovative Solutions from BioNova Pack: Enhanced Separation Technology: We have invested in advanced technologies that improve the separation of plastics by type and quality, increasing recycling efficiency. Development of Recyclable Materials: At BioNova Pack, we are developing new materials that are easier to recycle, reducing contamination and the associated costs of recycling. Education and Community Engagement: We launch initiatives to educate the community about the importance of proper recycling and to increase effective recycling rates. Impact and Long-Term Commitment: At BioNova Pack, we understand that the path to effective recycling requires commitment and continuous innovation. We are dedicated to overcoming the challenges of plastic recycling and to leading by example in the industry, demonstrating that a future where recycling is accessible and economical for everyone is possible. Recycling is an act of knowledge, intelligence, long-thinking and strategic approach to an overwhelming issue.
🌍🚮 Rethinking Recycling & its potential impact on the Global Textile Industry It's estimated that worldwide, we discard around 480 billion plastic bottles annually. Each of these bottles can take up to 450 years to decompose. Did you know that they could be converted (relatively) easily into textiles? At Merrow we believe sustainable technical softgood production is the model for both small and large manufacturing programs. Learn more at www.merrowmfg.com. It's not just about recycling more — though that's important — but also about recycling smarter. Let's invest in small and large programs that impact communities worldwide. We have the power to influence and drive change within our industries. Whether it’s advocating for corporate responsibility, investing in sustainable practices, or simply making a personal commitment to reduce plastic waste, every action counts. 🔗 Join the conversation: How can the global textile industry impact the plastic waste challenge? What innovative solutions have you seen or would like to see that could help turn the tide on plastic pollution? #Sustainability #Environment #PlasticPollution #CorporateResponsibility #Innovation #textiles David Billstrom Unifi Manufacturing, Inc.
