By Larry Sandler for WisBusiness.com Two passenger rail ideas once left for dead — a Kenosha-Racine-Milwaukee commuter line and an Amtrak route from #Milwaukee to #Madison — are back on the study track. Should these and other proposals come to fruition, passenger trains could one day link eight of #Wisconsin’s 10 largest cities to each other, Chicago and Minneapolis-St. Paul. ▶️ Milwaukee is now the only one of those top 10 cities with Amtrak service. Advocates say the proposed routes could stimulate #investment and help #workers reach #jobs. If the southeastern Wisconsin commuter line dubbed #KRM was established, “some of the poorest #neighborhoods in this region would be connected to over 400,000 jobs within 45 minutes of public transit,” says Trevor Jung, City of Racine’s transit and mobility director. “That would be life-altering.” Passenger rail also offers a solid return on investment by helping mid-sized cities like #EauClaire become more competitive, says Scott Rogers, chair of the WEST CENTRAL WISCONSIN RAIL COALITION and vice president of the Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce. And rail travel between mid-sized cities, like those in the Fox Valley, could ultimately have a “more meaningful impact” than passengers riding all the way to Chicago or Milwaukee, City of Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich has said. 🔎 Read more and share your thoughts: https://lnkd.in/g8Pne8Pk

New York to Boston via Ronkonkoma. 🚄 Exciting news for Northeast commuters! A high-speed train proposal, part of the North Atlantic Rail Initiative (NAR), could soon transform travel between NYC and Boston, cutting the journey to just 100 minutes. This bullet train aims to reach speeds up to 225 mph, significantly reducing the current nearly four-hour trip on Amtrak's Acela. The $105 billion project also plans to enhance regional connectivity, including an east-west link between Boston and Springfield, and improved services to major airports like JFK and LaGuardia. If approved, it will create thousands of jobs and reduce pollution, making commuting more efficient and environmentally friendly. Funded by infrastructure bill, this transformative project could take 20 years to complete, but it's a promising step towards modernizing our transit system. 🌟 #Infrastructure #HighSpeedRail #NYC #Boston #Transportation #Sustainability Credit: https://lnkd.in/eF5xmQ4m

Preservation of a dedicated public transport corridor to and beyond Broadmeadow that links major job hubs and trip generators like the John Hunter Health and Innovation Precinct and University of Newcastle Callaghan is a priority. This should be capable of bus rapid transit and enable future light rail. The Minister for Regional Transport and Maitland MP Hon. Jenny Aitchison MP has prioritised a new transport plan for the Hunter. Transport for NSW are engaging substantively with regional stakeholders in development. This is the right vehicle for discussions on network planning, including how light rail fits into a long-term plan. The Hunter handed back $500 million in public transport funding to NSW last year with the cancellation of Syd-Newcastle fast rail. This is a fraction of that spent on new metros, light rail and bus services in metro Sydney and could go a long way in improving Hunter public transport to make a difference in months, not years. https://lnkd.in/gMXiHpjE

So over the weekend, London NorthWestern railway increased their prices by approximately 4.1%. In comparison, this equates to an extra £15 per month. People may see this as a “oh that’s only an extra £15 per month”, but here’s the thing: Now, price raises are initially a good thing whereby the quality also goes up, and to support those who genuinely need it. However, they’ve taken a step backwards. - Smaller seating - Slightly less trains (fractionally over the day) - More standing room - A tad longer journey into Euston (by approx. 1-3 mins) - Coupled with more chaos at Euston Make this make sense? A monthly season ticket costs over £370. In Germany, the comparative costs less than 1/5 of that price. And they say the future of British Rail is improving and bright? #commuting #london #trains

Last Week, The King's Speech confirmed transformative legislation to bring our railways into public ownership, creating a unified and efficient rail system under Great British Railways (GBR). Key highlights include: 🚆The Passenger Railway Services (Public Ownership) Bill aims to fulfill the Labour government's manifesto promise by improving passenger services and encouraging growth. 🛤️The Railways Bill creates GBR, with a focus on improving service quality, reducing costs, reforming ticketing systems, and boosting rail freight. 🚄The High-Speed Rail Bill aims to improve rail connections in the North, with new stations planned for Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport. At Deploy Recruitment Group, we are excited about the opportunities they present for the rail and infrastructure sectors. As we move towards a more integrated and efficient rail system, we are here to support the industry with top talent and expertise. What are your thoughts on these new reforms? When was this recommendation first made?.... “every system of internal railway communication for the metropolis should be under one management.” Answer: 161 years ago in 1863 by a House of Lords committee In Whitehall it's sometime said that it's not that we don't know the right policy decisions to make. It's just that we don't make them. Again and again. Just as London's transport operations and governance have been regularly rejigged over the decades, there have been recurring proposals for rail devolution for London transport which have often generated friction at the edges, but little more. With the major exception of the Elizabeth line, which was destined from the outset to be integrated into TfL, central government has been largely opposed to what it fears might be seen as a pro-London rail policy or one that involves handing power to a political opponent. Government centralization extends to transport serving Westminster itself! Undeterred by history, Alexander Jan makes the case a fresh, hoping that a new Government will be a reforming Government ready to finally unify London's railway management and 'settle the question of who is responsible for trains in our suburbs once and for all by handing over the keys to the Mayor of London'. #railways #governance
