It's World Environment Day 2024. This year, the focus of World Environment Day is the restoration of the environment that is lost or being lost.  There's so much to do.  Restoring and conserving the world's resources to support an ever-growing population is a tough challenge that has the potential to affect all of us. As engineers, Fen Technology sees and understands the scale of the fight against ecosystem depletion and destruction.  We understand the role that engineers have to play in contributing to the solution, providing insight and real workable outcomes. We think technology is both part of the problem and part of the solution. Just because something can be done doesn't necessarily mean it's a good idea.  So when designing a product, it pays to seek out the best approach at all stages. Like, does it make sense from an environmental perspective to power a device with a primary cell battery or can the product be repositioned to operate off rechargeable or energy-harvesting technology instead. Can the product be tailored to expand its market into new economies where environmental impacts are greater but awareness might be less at present? Are there marketing opportunities that can be exploited to alter your customers' behaviour and reduce the overall impact on the environment? Asking such questions early on in the development enables the product to be re-positioned to minimise the impact on the environment; it could also improve the marketplace's perception of your product and indeed your company. Fen is based in Cambridge, UK which is a fantastic place to be.  So much innovation, so much new thinking.  And it's encouraging to see all the efforts being made, by new players as well as old, to reduce our impact on the environment and innovate to leave the world a better place. What is your perspective on technology and its role?  Is it the problem, the solution, or both? I'd love to hear how you've joined our efforts to steer product design in a responsible direction. https://lnkd.in/eZZRizQQ #GenerationRestoration #SustainableEngineering #BehaviourChange Fen Technology is proud to support Showerkap in its mission to conserve water and reduce carbon emissions, by encouraging more sustainable shower habits and improved environmental decisions. We've also loved helping Scarab Solutions create a product to better manage pesticide use, leading to a reduction in ecosystem impact from pesticide spraying.
