By now, we know that self-care is not selfish. The next step is to acknowledge that it’s not just for us. You are enough. Your health, wellness, and sanity are thorough reasons for taking excellent care of yourself. You must know this. We must know this. Even with families, companies, communities – hell, countries – depending on us to always come to the rescue, Black women must resist being absorbed by our various roles and relationships. Audre Lorde said “If I didn’t define myself for myself, I’d be crunched into other people’s fantasies of me and eaten alive.” At this point, we are fighting to define ourselves. Furthermore, we are learning and crafting the tools necessary to examine ourselves – to see our own wounds, and heal them; to recognize our own worth, and honor it. This is the very basis of self-care. Some tips on being more inclusive over the Holidays.
Whether at work, with family, friends, or in community, we understand that the holiday season can bring up a myriad of emotions. We also know that diversity of thought is often prompted through unexpected conversations. It can be disarming when surprised. The other side is feeling alone or out of place. This is a downward spiral nobody deserves to experience. To help your perspective and your sense of calm to create more inclusion this season, we’ve gathered insight from a handful of experts. The Global Wellness Institute’s Diversity Equity Inclusion Initiative believes in the ability to connect us through our humanity, our stories, and the chance for all of us to be well. #ChoosingDiverseVoices #DiversityEquityInclusion #WellnessForAll Global Wellness Institute Cherrie Catreese Smith Dr. Cindy Tsai, MD Beatrice Kirubi

Well-being and Diversity & Inclusion don't overlap. 📣 But they need to. You see, it's easy for me to say that well-being and equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) efforts should overlap. But do we truly understand what that means? It's not just about surface-level representation. It's about understanding, appreciating, and accommodating the diverse experiences and needs of all people both physically and mentally. Businesses need to strive to understand what wellbeing truly means for different types of people, and action steps that are responsive to those needs. When we do, we create a system where everyone can thrive, not just survive. A world where good well-being is not a privilege, but a right. And isn't that worth fighting for? 💪

The struggle of Black women in the workplace is a topic that deserves much more attention than it currently receives. As someone who understands these challenges firsthand, it's disheartening to see organizations dismiss or neglect the wealth of research and evidence from the medical community about the unique stressors Black women face in the workplace. Even in environments where diversity and inclusion are stated priorities, Black women often find their voices overlooked, their experiences invalidated, and their capabilities questioned. This lack of trust and belief results in exhausting cycles of having to prove oneself repeatedly. This prompts me to question the motives behind organizations' efforts to diversify the physical workplace. Is it a genuine attempt to create an inclusive environment? Or an exploitation of our life experiences and struggles for optics or financial gain? It's time for organizations to listen, trust, and take action. It's time to ensure that Black women don't just occupy space in the workplace, but are valued, supported, and respected for their unique contributions. Let's foster truly inclusive workplaces, not just in theory, but in practice. #BlackWomenAtWork #Diversity #Inclusion
