More clickbait, but tempered by a major manufacturer playing catch-up in BEV development, and a pragmatic approach to using multiple technologies to achieve cumulative CO2 reduction as soon as possible. This also needs considering in the global market (not just US-EU-China) where BEV uptake is often very low and unsupported by electrical infrastructure.

“The chairman again argued that the primary target should be CO2 reduction—not converting specifically to battery-electric or fuel-cell tech.” Exactly - contrary to what the law in Europe defines it to be - CO2 reduction and batteries are not the same thing.

Analysis: Global electric vehicle demand raises concerns about battery cell carbon footprint. "The scale of #emissions from batteries by 2030 is estimated to be equivalent to the carbon footprint of 39 million people globally, reinforcing the need for aggressive carbon reduction strategies across the battery production lifecycle. Europe is leading the way with stringent regulations that push for lower #carbon footprints in battery production, which may slow their progress towards becoming fully self-reliant on domestic supply." As project manager at Speira, I support you to develop your products with tailored aluminium solutions with particular focus on e-mobility and battery applications
Interesting to see more and more reports on batteries' current and projected carbon footprints being published. In my opinion, the battery industry and supply chain will have to work hand in hand to meet challenging reduction targets and enable greener batteries. #TeamSpeira can help with tailored low carbon aluminium solutions for batteries. Check out our recent whitepaper (https://lnkd.in/eXk5YJYH) or meet us at #TheBatteryShow for more details.

Strategic Thinker| People Developer | Problem Solver | Goal Setter | Growth focused business leader who identifies opportunities and pain points, generates innovative solutions and empowers people.
As the debate continues over the future of the automotive industry, here is another study by the International Council on Clean Transportation with a particular focus on the life-cycle Greenhouse Gas emissions for 2024 sedans (SUV's are in another chart in the article). As attention has shifted back to hybrids due to current drawbacks with EV's (range anxiety, lack of charging infrastructure, high initial price, expensive repairs) would this impact your next vehicle decision in any way? If the technology evolves to the next level, that is, Solid State Batteries which offer high energy density and therefore range, possibly faster charging and improvements on battery degradation would it be worth waiting for? Are plug-in hybrids the real in between systems or are EV's the middle ground before the next emerging technology in automotive. https://lnkd.in/gDV8qSkh #EV #hybrid #PHEV #climatechange #emissions #batterytechnology #newdiscoverycoaching
