Last month, our Learning and Evaluation Team presented at the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) annual conference on Playspace Inequity Prioritization Index (PIPI), a new methodology for estimating playspace inequity. Read their reflections below and check out their session, available to watch now. "The National Parks and Recreation Association (NRPA) annual conference is unlike any other. In Dallas, we had the chance to connect with industry leaders from across the country, sharing our personal and professional experiences of navigating a changing park and playspace landscape. In the main exhibition hall, KABOOM! had the opportunity to share our Playspace Inequity Prioritization Index (PIPI) for the first time on a national stage. As first-time presenters at NRPA, it was hard to know what to expect, but as soon we opened for questions it was immediately clear that others have also been looking for methods to measure and address playspace inequity. "Having the opportunity to connect directly with parks systems from across the country has already helped us generate new connections and ideas for our systems change work. "We also came back with new ideas to end playspace inequity at scale for this generation of kids. We heard from San Francisco on how they are engaging with nonprofits to build community-informed spaces, and from San Antonio on how they are prioritizing health equity. "Perhaps the most important thing we learned is that through being in community with passionate parks and recreation professionals, we have the collective potential to change the future of recreation for the better."
