The New Testament refers to group leadership by “apostles and elders” (Acts 15:2, 4, 22-23), which may be closer to “polycentric” leadership (Handley 2022) involving collaboration (Handley 2023): such collaborative and shared leadership is less “WEIRD” than an individualistic focus on the person of the catalyst. Moreover, the term “elder” implies a respect for maturity and experience that is more characteristic of Asian and African traditional cultures than WEIRD ones. In this era of polycentric missions, we affirm that genuine partnerships must be developed between all churches everywhere, between those in the West and the MW, as well as among all churches in the MW. The challenge before us to fuse all our God-given resources together into a powerful synergistic whole for world mission.

If you're involved in ministry leadership development, I highly recommend "Leading Well in Times of Disruption", edited by Joe Handley, Gideon Para-Mallam, and Asia Williamson. It features a host of excellent contributors, including Michael A. Ortiz with a chapter on leadership development in theological education where Re-Forma.global received an honourable mention You can read my review here - *Empowering Christlike Leadership Development* "Leading Well in Times of Disruption" edited by Joseph Handley, Gideon Para-Mallam, and Asia Williamson, is a treasure trove for anyone passionate about Christlike leadership development. I found the insights from a diverse array of leaders incredibly enriching, offering practical guidance and spiritual encouragement. The emphasis on visionary leadership, deeply rooted in the values of the Lausanne Movement, really resonated with me. I appreciated the focus on mentoring younger leaders, women leaders, and fostering holistic development for Christlike leaders in the global Church. The chapters on leadership in persecuted areas and workplace ministry were particularly eye-opening, addressing some of the most pressing issues faced by today's leaders. Overall, the book provides a solid blend of theoretical perspectives and actionable strategies. It's an invaluable resource for anyone striving to lead with integrity and purpose. Highly recommended!
