Business ventures, social missions, marriages and friendships. The most successful future focused leaders aren't just the best visionaries or managers. They're often also the best partners. They've learned how strong partnerships and collaborations drive sustainable growth, help them stay ahead, and enable them to make a mark on the world. Take Microsoft: it's grown 200% since announcing the initial partnership with OpenAI on July 22, 2019. And that approach to partnerships should not have come as a surprise for anyone who had been watching Satya Nadella and Microsoft closely. It's a strategic strength they're proud of. Their ecosystem of 400,000 (!!!) partners reportedly drives as much as 95% of their commercial revenue. At its best, partnering is not just about coordinating efforts. It's also about relationships, shared vision, and deep connections. MASSIVE week sharing time with some of our PeoplePartners Inc. team in our South African office + our Leadership Team + my biz partner ANTHONY RICE. My top 5 take-aways / reflections: 1. Running on an operating system is powerful - we run on EOS & it's beautiful simplicity is such a foundational part of our biz success. It easily crosses cultures & borders, helping us unite a very distributed team behind the 1 vision and helping us really get traction 2. Even if you're a Remote team, with phenomenal processes for collaboration and rhythms to connect virtually - the investment in face to face, in person time can yield exponential returns.   3. Increasing the surface area for same page 'collisions' is worthwhile - operating in a biz partnership, has a lot of similarities to a marriage, with both thriving with quality time, but also enhanced by the ad-hoc shared experiences of being in each other's company. Choosing to travel, share an apartment, work-out, dine, brush-teeth…….together collectively provided many opportunities to get on the same page. Key learnings, clarity & growth were realised outside of the boardroom.   4. Being grateful & appreciating the journey is fundamental for sanity - scaling a biz is punctuated by continually hitting the ceiling, hence waiting to experience joy when everything is perfect is a recipe for disaster.   5. Working with a Team that spans multiple countries & cultures provides a unique perspective that there's far more that unites us, than divides us. In an increasingly polarised World, where borders & differences in cultures are in the headlines for all the wrong reasons, I'm grateful that I don't rely on headlines, but share close relationships with clients & colleagues around the World for first hand & lived experiences.   That's the reflections from the week that was - now looking forward to the weekend to recharge! 🙂 *** PS - I partner with Leaders to re-engineer their workforce so they can scale profitable & efficient organisations with the best global talent. Last month, my team and I had an amazing experience at the 2024 WEConnect International APAC Conference in Brisbane. The two-day event focused on: → Supplier diversity → Networking sessions linking buyers with suppliers → Opportunities & challenges for women-owned businesses We loved connecting with women-owned businesses, industry leaders, and organisations that drive positive change across the APAC region 🐑 It also made us realize we need a few extra business cards next time 😄 Another big highlight was the signing of an MoU between WEConnect International, Supply Nation, and Social Traders. Over the next 3 years, they'll work together to strengthen: - Social enterprises - Indigenous businesses - Women-owned businesses and the intersections that exist between these groups marking a stronger collaboration 🎉 While there’s still so much work to be done, collaborations like these are a step in the right direction for breaking barriers. People across sectors often misunderstand each other, leading to doubt, fear, and ultimately, distance. But if we can push through that initial fight-or-flight instinct, the rewards are immense. What emerges are partnerships that are both resilient and sustainable - able to weather today’s challenges and secure long-term impact. This is where resilience and sustainability intersect: resilience ensures adaptability and strength in the present, while sustainability focuses on preserving resources and goals for the future. Both are crucial in creating partnerships that thrive under pressure and still hold their vision for tomorrow. 🌟 This is the balance we all need to achieve - where resilience meets sustainability. Looking back on our exciting journey to the U.S. this April, we’re filled with vivid memories and significant moments. Our trip to New York was not just a visit—it was a strategic effort driven by our mission at Tunga to connect African tech talent with global opportunities. Our CEO, Ernesto Spruyt, led us through a week filled with networking events, including the lively Tech and Startup Networking Mixer at Sour Mouse and engaging sessions at the New Jersey Innovation Institute and TechWalk Manhattan. Our move into the U.S. market was sparked by a simple, yet profound, realization: even without a direct focus, we had already gained ten clients from the U.S. This serendipitous success was a clear sign of the strong demand for specialized software solutions, prompting us to explore this vast market further. Ernesto's schedule, from the Business Networking Group Meeting to the Open Coffee Club Newark, didn't just help us forge new connections; it also allowed us to share our impactful tech story. 🚀 REAL TALK on My Event Closing Remarks at this week's Atlanta Digital World Summit 🌐 TL;DR - I took ALL THE NOTES 🤓 , and had the pleasure of giving the closing remarks on the conference’s panels. And for those who cared to listen and read between the lines of the panelists' conversations: it confronted the convergence of old and new media, the event was a powerhouse of real ideas and collaboration with market leaders - it left me with questions that need to be answered for Atlanta. BEYOND THE HYPE OF SUCCESS from FINTECH, INTERACTIVE and ENTERTAINMENT Its so easy to get swept up in the grandeur of the success shared by the market leading pantheon of panelists (read that 3x fast), but the fact the the event took the angle of here’s the WHY ATL DOES AND CAN LEAD DIGITALLY and turned it into BUT HOW DO WE IMPROVE, CULTIVATE AND ENSURE our economic environment, our state, our community and our business models. MORE THAN MOTIVATIONAL But there was REAL incredible value on the stage and in the networking hall from REAL people who have created empires from ideas, who run small to large digitally inclined operations that can push entrepreneurs and Atlanta forward. Points, and counterpoints, real talk, some bullshitting, and vulnerability - human. INCLUSIVE AND ACTIONABLE  It was empowering, and it gave everyone actionable insight and not just trite tidbits from celebrating Atlanta's dynamic growth. Moreover, you could participate with the thought leaders. CHALLENGES  Challenges exist and you had to be there to figure out your own context between the panels. Everything from bridging educational gaps with workforce and investors, to fostering inclusivity and preserving our unique cultural and creative human capital. As we navigate the new age where traditional meets innovation (I dont’ really think I need to elaborate on powers of AI or Interactive storytelling), it's crucial to leverage our diverse talent, creative minds, and financial capital to craft an environment that empowers creators, nurtures fans, and fosters idea generation and entrepreneurship.
