A moment for Self-Reflection Reliability > Skills During my career at BNY Mellon, I have not been the best at all times. I have stepped into roles that were new territory, but I always gave my best. One thing I can say about myself, I have always been #reliable. No matter what the ask was, I would do whatever it took to deliver the best results. I am thankful for my #leadership teams that have always trusted me to lead a team, even if I did not have experience in that field. As #leaders, we are expected to be placed in challenging positions and help our team succeed. I feel that I have always done my best to achieve this goal for #bnymellon, even when I was lost. One thing I love about Capital One is our recognition culture! All around campus you can find these “say congrats” chalk boards. These chalk boards are placed all around the campus and people walk up and write congrats notes for team members who recently got a promotion, completed a project, or whatever they want. FREE TIP: We should never be going so fast that we don’t stop and thank the team members who are making it happen everyday. If you want positive company culture start with recognizing the great work everyone’s doing.

During my career, I have had moments I needed to mature and adapt, especially as I entered #leadership roles- but I always stayed true to who I am at my core. My career #mobility, how to #support my #team, and decisions I have made to service our #clients has given me the opportunity to become who I am today. I have made many decisions that may not have always been viewed as the best, but I believe that “trusting my gut” has truly helped me bring change and continue to grow into a #leader for our company. I will always value advice from anyone at all levels to be better and grow, but I will always keep my heart and intentions pure. If anyone knows one thing about me, it’s that I love #feedback so I can continue developing to becoming better for all of you. Supporting my team and ensuring my clients always have the best service will continue to be a priority in my career, but I will always be myself while doing it. Never be scared to be who you are, but be open to feedback and how to be better. I had a brilliant time at BNY Mellon this morning listening to an excellent panel discussion on Imposter Mindset hosted by the fabulous Nikki O'Sullivan. Huge thank you to pro-manchester for organising such a brilliant event. It was really great to take some time to sit back on reflect on this, how it can impact us in our careers and day to day lives. It is certainly something I have felt at different points in my career and know what a challenge it can be. My takeaways were: - Imposter Mindset Impacts 80% of us. If you are struggling with this it definitely isn't just you! - Celebrating the small wins and successes can really help to overcome this and focus on achievements. - Creating psychological safety in the work place so people feel confident to discuss and learn from their mistakes is vital in tackling this. “Demonstrate appreciation and gratitude” That’s what I always say when it comes to discussions over personnel, teams, motivation etc. And that’s what works! On the photo that’s me after a tough day at work this week, being hugely thanked by the Senior Manager for the two projects we are doing together. That’s what made me recall the reason of putting so much effort into the work. Effective motivation differs for individuals, and still most of those who I talked to agree - they need to know that their efforts are seen, and their input is precious, and their value is obvious to the colleagues. Many are grateful in return to constructive “thank you” - that is thankful words that are not limited to simple “thanks”, but are supported with reasoning and with personal reflection on why one is thankful. I believe this should be done only when deserved, otherwise that would become meaningless. And our colleagues - no matter if they are peers, more junior or more senior - tend to be grateful for that kind of well-deserved “thank you” feedback (or feedforward, so to say). Personally, I have a strong feeling of being needed here when someone highlights particular things one is grateful for to me. And I love to see shiny eyes and a gentle smile when I thank the colleagues for what they have done and what they are doing. I wish that culture would prosper and develop, and none efforts would be taken for granted. Everyone should take care of each other, in a way.
