💡3 Eye-opening lessons from Interzoo: While everyone's sharing their paw-some experiences at Interzoo, I thought it'd be valuable to share some lessons we've learned as a start-up. 1. Not every retailer is ready to bring it to their shelves 🛍️: But you know what? That's okay! We saw one type of retailer who saw the bigger picture: those who see beyond just sales are eager to invest in the next-generation pet owners, recognizing the value we bring beyond just products on shelves. 2. Thinking outside our little bubble 🌏: While we've been busy focusing on our slice of the market back home, Interzoo showed us that there are huge opportunities in other markets too. Turns out, there are big markets out there looking exactly for what we've got to offer, and it's not exactly what we had in mind. 3. Brand affection: Not to brag, but one thing was clear: Our brand, story and products made an impression at Interzoo. It felt amazing to get so much love from the big dogs in the pet industry. ⏰ Time.. ⏰ – it feels like the biggest scarcity in my life as a start-up co-founder. My days are often consumed by an endless to-do list, all aimed at chasing new successes. But past successes deserve some love too – especially when they’re something you’re proud of, right? But since I’ve already spent more time on this post than I planned, so I might as well make it count. 3 months ago (yes 3 months.. 😅), at Interzoo, the biggest European pet trade show, I had the chance to giving a talk about the positive impact of vegan dog food with PAWR. And as the carrot on top, we participated in the Fresh Idea Stage Pitch Contest and proudly took home 2nd place! So, who else struggles with this? They say time heals all wounds. They're wrong. On November 8th, 2014, I snapped this photo of Lilo, the cutest puggle there ever was 🐶. It's been years since his passing, and the pain of missing him hasn't dulled. It's still too raw, making the thought of getting another dog feel impossible for my wife and me. That day in 2014 wasn't just about Lilo. It was a celebration of our win with Freshpet, a remarkable pet food brand we've had the honor of working with now for over a decade at Digital Surgeons . Lilo's love for Freshpet was unmatched – although he wouldn't say no to sneaking leftovers from the kitchen table too. I don't have a pet. However, it has nothing to do with the fact that I have only recently discovered the term: #Dogfooding, which means: know your product like your customers do, by using it not only launching it. Why is Dogfooding so important? Because it forces us to confront the reality of our product which can be a huge eye opener, drive ongoing improving and ultimately, create something that people will actually want to use. So far for the utopia Dogfooding isn't always possible: sometimes the product is made for #B2B or for medical use and somethimes there are other constrains (not given enough focus, time, money etc).
