Having the Olympics on in our JLL Hong Kong office is fantastic! I’m constantly finding excuses to head up to our cafe area to take in the action. It’s especially exciting as well to see Hong Kong flying high on the medal table, with one of the highest medals per capita ratios in the games. But it should come as no surprise as I find it hard to think of anywhere else in the world better equipped for world class sport. Prior to 2008, the UK only had two Olympic sized swimming pools… Hong Kong has 44 which are open to the public. Hong Kong has 25 government run athletics stadiums with running tracks, spectator stands and space for field activities. Sha Tin rowing centre provides top drawer facilities for rowing and other paddle sports, whilst Hong Kong Sports Institute provides athletes with an elite training centre and scientific support. Whilst generous funding is offered to our athletes to enable them to focus on achieving their ambitions. This is without even mentioning the new Kai Tak Sports Park with its new 50,000 seater stadium, or the world class mountains, beaches and oceans which provide the perfect playground for trail runners, sailing, canoeing, cycling and climbing. There is truly no other place in Asia able to offer both elite athletes and casual weekend warriors such a fantastic range of features. It’s been a running joke that every fencing school in Hong Kong will have been inundated by calls from parents who want their kids to take up the sport, but this is exactly what an Olympic Games should do! We want to see young Hong Kongers inspired by our current stars; imagining limitless possibilities in their own future and taking the first steps to achieving those dreams. Hong Kong is not just Asia’s Financial Capital, but also a sport and cultural hub, which is why it continues and always will be Asia’s World City.

It's the beginning of the month and it's also typically the busiest period for finance in general. However on Friday, my colleagues and I had some unconventional chat 😆 it's about badminton at the Olympics. I like how our work connects us but with the spirit of sports, I super like how badminton connects us tho we are not playing or super into sports 🤣 but because Malaysia is playing at the Olympics, it became a common topic for us to chat and laugh together. Given the flexibility to work from home, we don't really meet our colleagues often but it's thru some little effort and small conversations like this that help us stay connected ❤️ Let not wait till the company does big events or some monthly/ quarterly meet up to connect with our fellow colleagues. Let's start to initiate some small conversations to establish the relationship. Team work starts within ourselves 😊 P/s: huge congratulations to our Malaysia team. We feel the intensity and heart pounding moment especially when all eyes on you. Words may be little in the game between the coach and the players but the relationship and connection built makes it easy to comfort each other with just a pat or thru eye contact ❤️ A genuine and subsisting relationship means that the relationship is real and not just a matter of formality. #Badminton #Olympics #teamwork

Where’s Our Gold? While we're still waiting for our first Olympic gold, our neighbors like the Philippines and Indonesia have already done it. Even Singapore struck gold in swimming, right? a few years ago? So, why are we still missing out? I mean, India, the most populous country on Earth, just managed to snag one silver And St. Lucia, with a population smaller than Bangsar, has one, thanks to their sprinter in the 100M sprint! I was also happy to see Pakistan get its first Gold through javelin too! What are we doing wrong? Here’s my take: We're stuck prioritizing the same old sports. Sure, we’ve got our strengths in badminton and some flashes of brilliance in cycling, but we need to expand our horizons. It's time to seriously invest in grassroots development for other sports like: Weightlifting Diving Archery Judo Karate Maybe even breakdancing (cue laugh track after watching Australia) Our education system isn't exactly a breeding ground for future Olympians either. We’ve got, what, one or two sports schools? Meanwhile, we have more malls than sports centers. Instead of building another shopping complex, how about we invest in fields, gyms, and courts where the rakyat can actually train? We have the talent, but talent needs nurturing. To be world-class, we need the right tools, and most importantly, we need to keep politicians from interfering in sports associations. Sports unites us as a nation. Let’s make sure we’re giving our athletes the support they need to bring home that elusive gold. But all lies in the hand of the G O V la first get us out of being SEA’s most obese country and unfortunately Rempit is NOT a Olympic sport

International sailing federation permits Russians to participate in Olympic qualification World Sailing announced that it was suspending athletes from Russia and Belarus from its events on March 1, 2022 World Sailing, the international governing body for the sport of sailing, resolved to permit athletes from Russia and Belarus to participate in qualification events for the Paris Olympics, the organization’s press service said. "Those who meet the necessary eligibility criteria will be permitted to participate as AINs in competition for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, starting with the Last Chance Regatta qualifying event, to be held as part of the Semaine Olympique Fran·aise, 20-27 April, and finishing with the Olympic regatta in Marseille," World Sailing said in a statement. World Sailing announced that it was suspending athletes from Russia and Belarus from its events on March 1, 2022. On May 24, 2023, the federation said the suspension had been extended. In late March, 2023, the IOC recommended to permit individual athletes from Russia and Belarus to take part in international sports tournaments, but only under certain conditions. Specifically, athletes from the two countries should not be "actively supporting" Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine and must compete under a neutral status. Russia and Belarus were also banned from participating in international team events. The Last Chance Regatta will be held in France’s Mediterranean coastal town of Hyeres on April 20-27. It will bring together athletes who have not yet qualified for the Olympics. #business #finance #financialservices

3 athletes from 🇰🇪Kenya and 🇪🇹Ethiopia were hired as pacers to help Chinese athlete, He Jie, win the Beijing half marathon and break the national record. They ran together for the entire distance and He finished first but fell short of the record. Their amusing approach to the finish line has now been shared globally by news networks and on social media. All 4 athletes have been stripped of their medals and prize money because the runners from Africa "let him win". I feel for these athletes who did the job they were paid to do, but were let down by event organizers and management. Lessons learned:  1. #Management matters.  2. #Coaching matters.  3. Who you work for matters. 4. Attention to detail matters. 5. Africa's distance runners are amazing 💪 6. Where it all started. 😇 Since then I’ve coached over 70 athletes in New Zealand with more than half reaching NZ representative level. It takes hard work, guts and passion. A real dedication to refining and perfecting many small intricate skills. There are always hurdles, let downs and failures along the way. No one makes it without having to dig deep and overcome. However, when any of us look back on what we have achieved the things that give the most pleasure are those we have worked hard for. Effort = reward. Albanese could of won the next election in a Landslide. How? We have 460 Olympic Athletes. He gave Papua New Guinea ~ $600 million for rugby! Not even our own Country. Singapore is a tiny Island. Australia is a huge Island. Singapore athletes get ~$1 million for Gold. Australian athletes get $20,000. If they got $1,000,000 for the 18 gold, $750,000 for silver and $500,000 for bronze. The total of $40,250,000, would have made Albanese a Legend. Then give the remaining $557,750,000 million to PAPUA NEW Guinea Electric power network. This would of stopped China moving in and taking over Papua New Guinea. Yanmar Signs First Official Partnership Agreement with Japan Sailing Federation Osaka, Japan (June 4, 2024) - Yanmar Holdings Co., Ltd. has signed an official partnership agreement with the Japan Sailing Federation (JSAF), a public interest incorporated foundation. This partnership supports JSAF’s comprehensive activities, including major sailing championships for junior and youth generations and marine environmental conservation efforts, to encourage the growth and challenges of the next generation of sailors. At the Yanmar Group, the values of believing in people's potential and supporting their challenges, which have been inherited since our founding, are called HANASAKA. This agreement aligns with JSAF’s efforts in organizing competitions for the next generation of sailors and environmental conservation activities, and it is considered one of our HANASAKA initiatives to support future challenges. The first initiative under this agreement was to support the recently concluded ASAF Sailing Cup JSAF Enoshima Olympic Week 2024, an international event held May 23-26 and hosted by JSAF.
