BEAUTIFUL STORY A little boy went to a telephone booth which was at the cash counter of a store and dialed a number. The store-owner observed and listened to the conversation: Boy : “Lady, Can you give me the job of cutting your lawn? Woman : (at the other end of the phone line) “I already have someone to cut my lawn.” Boy : “Lady, I will cut your lawn for half the price than the person who cuts your lawn now.” Woman : I’m very satisfied with the person who is presently cutting my lawn. Boy : (with more perseverance) “Lady, I’ll even sweep the floor and the stairs of your house for free. Woman : No, thank you.With a smile on his face, the little boy replaced the receiver. The store-owner, who was listening to all this, walked over to the boy. Store Owner : “Son… I like your attitude; I like that positive spirit and would like to offer you a job.” Boy : “No thanks, Store Owner : But you were really pleading for one. Boy : No Sir, I was just checking my performance at the job I already have. ARE YOU IRREPLACEABLE? A little boy went into a drug store, reached for a soda carton and pulled it over to the telephone. He climbed onto the carton so that he could reach the buttons on the phone and proceeded to punch in seven digits (phone numbers). The store-owner observed and listened to his conversation. Boy: Ma, Can you give me the job of cutting your lawn & cleaning your house? Woman: (at the other end of the phone line): ‘I already have a gardener/cleaner’ Boy: pls Ma, I will work for half the price you pay your present gardener/cleaner Woman: I’m very satisfied with my present gardener/cleaner Boy: (with more perseverance) : ‘Ma, I’ll even sweep your curb & your sidewalk even during weekends So you will have the neatest lawn/compound in the neighbourhood Woman: No, thank you. With a smile on his face, the little boy hang up. The store-owner, who was listening to all this, walked over to the boy. Store Owner: ‘Son… I like your attitude; I like that positive spirit and would like to offer you a job.’ Boy: ‘No thanks.’ Store Owner: But you were really pleading for one. Boy: No Sir, I was just checking my performance at the Job I already have. I am the one who is working for that lady I was talking to!’ This is called self-appraisal. If someone was to pitch for your current role, position or place, what will your employer or partners say about you? What would your company, partner or loved ones look for if they wanted to replace you with someone better? Are you irreplaceable??? If yes kudos! But if No.... Then check & make yourself irreplaceable before it's too late.

Every time we think of comparing ourselves and others, we should compare ourselves to our own self instead. During a recent conversation on career guidance with a young lady, she inquired about mine and assumed it was a straight shot. I smile and showed her the pic below. I asked what do you see and of course she states the obvious…folding. Yes, you see me helping our Community Programs team prepare t-shirts for the girls but it’s also a conversation about how much I enjoyed folding merino wool sweaters as an Associate Manager at Banana Republic. During that time it was a moment I could properly present the brand and prepare the store for my team members and customers, familiarize myself on the sales we need for the day to be successful, and how many new shoppers I would confidently add to my client book because they would return to our store soon. It’s these moments I enjoy because I reflect on previous roles that contributed to me becoming a better version of myself one lesson at a time. I closed our conversation with: 1. You have accomplished so much more than you think you have. 2. Protect your quiet time to reflect on lessons learned (good and not so good). 3. Your path to the best version of yourself is the one that you are creating, so create the life you want! 4. Surround yourself with those who will be honest and supportive. They will remind you when you need to give yourself GRACE and when you need to LOCK IN! Honestly my quiet times are like Maximus smelling the dirt before each battle.😉

🚨 Employee Spotlight 🚨 Today we would like to introduce Libby Loescher! She has been a Purchasing Administrative Assistant on our Equipment & Automation team in Mediapolis, Iowa, since August 2022. In this role, Libby said she has enjoyed acquiring the knowledge to have strong problem-solving skills and developing processes to gain efficiencies. 👉Fondest work memory so far: "Every time I hear that a job has no delays due to missing purchased parts, it makes me happy. I hope that I can positively impact someone’s day, in a small way, by having the items they need to do their job well!" 👉Favorite things to do outside of work: "One of my favorite things is travelling with my niece and nephews. A close second to that is returning home after traveling with my niece and nephews! A few days ago, Betsy Kirkpatrick posed a very interesting question: How do you find your niche in your career? My response: "In my previous life, I was a Law School graduate, I even passed the Bar exam. I left it all behind and started over (left Romania and moved to US), as part time groundskeeper. I had no clue what my career path would be, but I wanted to be the best groundskeeper there was. When I first became a Maintenance Director, I realized that I was approaching a ceiling. That was when I have started to learn as much as I could about the other parts of the business-marketing, recruiting, sales, high level operations. One day I discovered LinkedIn and I have started connecting with people. Then I started posting. When my network was large enough, I've learned that I have an eye for connecting people looking for opportunities with people offering opportunities. A few more years in, I had an a-ha moment: I've been a networker/people connector my entire life (true story to tell another day). During this journey, I have learned a ton about building a personal brand and leveraging the power of this platform. Today, I'm ready to help businesses elevate their brands and be part of projects that our industry is in desperate need of." I walked into the kitchen and handed my husband the phone. On the other line was a Macys customer service representative. I needed him to use his credit card to finish my order. I was buying bedding and the coupon I was trying to use capped out at $500. He needed to put the rest on his CC so I could get the discount 😂. As I rounded the corner, I saw he had a brownie in his hand. I gave him the phone. He handed me the brownie. And that’s how I ended up spending the day on the phone with poison control. The dogs heartworm pill was in the brownie. Accounts of the story vary widely. 😂 He claims he mouthed the words “Give this to the dog” to me. I am 1000% sure he was just sharing his brownie with me. Turns out, after several emergency calls to both poison control and the doggy pharmaceutical company, the pills are not dangerous to humans. The jokes however, were endless. I was subjected to “Woof woof” cackles….. Would you like to fetch my slippers?” And my favorite, “Were you chasing cars today?” It went on for days. 😂😂😂 Good thing for HIM that I can take a joke. This is why communication is so important. Be clear in your language, requirements and intentions. Especially when you are looking for a job. When you waffle on what you want, what you need, or what you don’t, it sends mixed signals. You could end up in a job that you don’t like or doesn’t pay you what you are worth. And that’s a lot worse than ending up in the doghouse. 🐶🐾🦴 #resumewriting #jobsearch #dogs

We almost adopted the wrong dog and it reminded me of the following: We buy on emotion and justify after with logic Fortunately we were equipped with recruitment selection strategies including a scorecard, an interview process and a debrief. We went to the shelter set on a chihuahua but ended up falling in love with this terrier. He checked almost all the boxes He’s healthy, friendly, spunky, cute and the right size, age and coat. And energetic. TOO energetic.  He’d been returned to the shelter previously because of this. Over the 2.5 hours we spent with him, the terrier hunting instinct never turned off.  Pacing, sniffing, scratching, chewing, jumping. If he were a candidate, he’d be great for a rat extermination-based startup.  But we’re looking for more of a Walmart greeter energy.
