The Update below is from Psychotherapy and Counselling Union Please be aware. APA is the ONLY VOLUNTARY REGISTER that accepts Level 4 diploma as the baseline qualification for Counselling and Psychotherapy. That is not adopting SCoPEd. SCoPEd is only applicable to professionals that are affiliated to the VOLUNTARY REGISTER that have adopted it. It is not a regulatory standard and should not be treated as such. There is no legal authority for SCoPEd outside of the VOLUNTARY registers that apply it as a T&C of their Membership. This simply another example of the Bottleneck Around Counselling and Psychotherapy that coeres and manipulates professionals and endorses Closed Shop Recruitment. Professionals have a legally protected Freedom to Choice, regarding VOLUNTARY registers they wish to join. https://lnkd.in/ebYjRi_S

In therapy, 'Confidentiality', 'Non-judgement', 'Unconditional positive regard' are very vital in helping people who seek psychological interventions to feel safe, ease up and form an alliance with the practitioner, towards attaining the solutions they seek. Have you sought psychological intervention before? Did you feel safe during the process?

The type of change that Carl Rogers viewed through the lens of client-centered therapy: On Becoming a Person: A Therapists View of Psychotherapy The person comes see himself differently. He accepts himself and his feelings more fully. He becomes more self-confident and self-directing. He becomes more the person he would like to be. He becomes more flexible, less rigid, in his perceptions. He adopts more realistic goals for himself. He behaves in a more mature fashion. He changes his maladjustive behaviors, even such a long-established one as chronic alcoholism. He becomes more acceptant of others. He becomes more open to the evidence, both to what is going on outside of himself, and to what is going on inside of himself. He changes in his basic personality characteristics, in constructive ways.

It has been extremely hard to feel safe to disclose neuro-divergencies as therapist to colleagues or supervision groups. How do you talk about YOUR difference when you are taught to work WITH difference, after all? Myira Khan in her 2023 book says: Whenever difference or diversity is taught on counselling or psychotherapy training programmes, how it is usually presented is under the term ‘working with diversity and/or difference’. When broken down, there are five inherent problems with the oppressive term ‘working with diversity and/or difference’, listed below and then each explained in further detail: -The ‘bolt-on’ -Client as ‘diverse’ and counsellor as ‘normative’ -Counsellor’s identity is missing -Relational dynamic and power in the therapeutic relationship -Unequal weighting on client’s identity Photo: my favourite place in the world: Amorgos.

Today was the last of my taught lectures on my DProf in Counselling, Psychotherapy and Psychological Trauma course at University of Chester. So thankful for the wonderful team of lecturers and supportive peers on what, for me, has been an incredible learning experience. Excited about the next steps towards my doctoral thesis about clinical supervision practice. #counsellingandpsychotherapy #clinicalsupervision #research #lifelonglearning #phdstudentlife #artjournal #artjournaleveryday #journaling #creativejournaling

Fellow psychotherapists, who can relate? Whether you're a new clinician or a well-seasoned one, there will be times when your interpretations miss the mark. Clients have many ways of indicating this to us, some more overt than others. Attending to these indications is an important part of psychotherapy, as doing so can help us identify when there might be a need for repair, better attunement, etc. #therapistthursday #therapymemes #theartofinterpretation

There's no doubt that knowing what to say, how to say it, and when to say it is an integral knowledge-skill in psychotherapy. I call this the Active-Positive Stance/Function of a psychotherapist. But there's also the other side of this function that is more or less its mirror image - I call it the Passive-Negative Stance/Function. In this stance, the therapist is trying to exercise the more difficult skill of intuiting what not to say, when not to say, and how not to say. It's the more difficult skill to exercise because it is all about curtailing the egocentric impulses in the therapist fighting for immediate expression as well as the need to justify itself or prove a point. It is about holding back, suppression, self-discipline, allowance, and timing. It is the reason why older and more experienced therapists are better at maintaining this less egocentric stance in therapy than the young blood. And of course, beyond and independently of experience, young therapists with certain personality style are also able to quickly grow into assuming this stance when necessary.

https://lnkd.in/gg_9cyve Psychotherapists of Aus, this survey is for you - recent conversations have reminded me of the importance of public awareness and education around what psychotherapy really is (especially compared to 'psychology' here in Australia). Gathering this info could be the beginning of the public being more aware of the strength of psychotherapy as an intervention and profession.
