So its awards season everywhere and the Autocar Top 10 Sports Cars 2024 is out. The Porsche 911 sits at number 1 and rightly so, but I think its fantastic to see one of my personal favourites the BMW M2 Coupe right up behind it at number 2. Bear in mind that the V10 Audi R8 is down in 5th place its some measure of quite how good the M2 is. Fair play to BMW as in a world of ever changing technology and motor sport wizardry they have kept it all pretty straight forward. Six cylinders at the front, all in a line, a drive train powering the rear wheels only and a perfect 50/50 weight distribution. Ok there's some turbo charging and a very clever rear differential but by modern standards this really is quite a simple car. Just a brilliant one. If you take into account the price walk between an M2 and a sensible spec 911 its going to be around a fifty grand gap, which is almost enough to cover a nice spec Discovery Sport or similar. I am lucky enough to represent multiple high performance marques but when it comes to bang for your buck, I really do think that the BMW M2 is an absolute crakerjack.
