Meet the Comma.   That unobtrusive punctuation mark that holds A LOT of power. Sort of looks like an old school telephone, right? We can’t tell you who invented it but kudos to that somebody for giving us storytellers a mark of dramatic pause that can so easily make or break the telling of a story. Many of us get confused about when to use this golden goddess of punctuated glory – mainly because we were taught in school that she can only ever be used to intercept lists and clauses. This is called the Oxford Comma. But, (see what we did there) when it comes to scripting, narrative, campaign content and storytelling this little swinger can go the extra mile and honestly grant your copy literary liberation – if you know how to treat her correctly. We call her the Concubine Comma – like the ‘other woman’ that walks into a room, the music stops and heads turn. Yes, that powerful. We use her for pauses, dramatic effect, thought provoking moments and sometimes just after we kill a darling.   This is copywriting at its best in business and leisure and we’ll show you how. Creating moving business stories doesn't make a difference Until you have adapted these four screenwriting principles: ✒️ Character goal: The heart of your story What does your hero want? Make it clear to the audience. No goal, no story. ✒️ Consequences: Establish stakes. What will the hero lose if they fail? What will they gain if they succeed? Be clear about these aspects. ✒️ Stakes for the protagonist: Make the listener feel something. Connect with empathy. Highlight what the hero stands to win or lose. ✒️ Time limitations: Create urgency. Limited time drives action and helps achieve goals. Keep the audience hooked. Master the art of storytelling.
